,

I'd say it was a rubbish idea, You clearly weren't converting the T4 to t3

very well, but 100 mcg of T4 was getting your reserve up to the top end of the

range..... chances are another 25 mch would have improved it nicely.

Did you look into reasons why you weren't converting?

125 - 150 t4 is considered a reasonable replacement dose. T3 is considered to

be 4 times stronger than t4, so if you're on 50 t3 it's equivalent to at least

200 mcg T4, plus the 100 you already take......

T3 can stress your adrenals and if they aren't happy then it just doesn't work

properly..... What are you taking to support them? Vit C and NAX?

It's a complicated system and ALL needs to be balanced..... T3, T4 ,

Adrenals, vitamins and minerals.....

.

Hi , sounds a reasonable suggestion as your FT4 is high and FT3 is still lowerin its range than the T4.Subject: Not so lobotomised - now on T3

HiIt's been a while since I posted, but I've seen a useful improvement to my brain fog since starting on T3/T4 combo. I was on 100mcg T4, then prescribed 20mcg T3, 50mcg T4. I have (naughty boy) been taking 30mcg T3 and 50 or 100mcg of T4 every day. 3 * 10mcg T3 doses, on waking, 1pm and going to bed. I have just got a new prescription (GP was confused why I needed new one so soon). I want to try 3 * T3 (20, 20, 10) - giving 50mcg T3 and 50mcg of T4. Good idea? I got the following blood test results just before starting on T3 (14th March). Supposedly my thyroid measurements were all "normal" but some blood counts were LOW: -**Liver Function Test**I had another blood test on Monday, so it will be interesting to see comparison in a few weeks.Many thanks if you have any helpful comments! I haven't yet had saliva test or other tests.

Hi

Thanks for the blunt reply (honestly appreciated)!

I tried 100mcg T4 and 50mcg T3 yesterday (20, 20 and 10) and had a lousy nights

sleep, though that could be because work was rubbish and late, hot night and

some nightime fun (not meaning to be smutty, just objective).

I plan a more reasonable 100mcg T4 and 30mcg (10, 10, 10) today.

I am not doing anything else at the moment, work is keeping me away from

research, etc. What do you recommend in terms of tests and supplements? I do

take a cod liver supplement (a previous attempt at getting my brain function

back up).

Thanks again

Hi ,

Thanks for your reply, did I make it clear my blood test results were before

starting T3? I then started 30mcg T3. I had a lousy nights sleep lastnight on my

1st day of 50mcg T3 (could be other factors though).

I may be hoping for too much and my blues and low energy/motivation could just

be my career (20+ years of computer programming) burning me out or getting too

hard. I am seeing a life coach to explore possibilities.

Thanks again

You started T3 on a high dose and how long was it before you

increased it to 50mcgs. You might be taking too much and it could be pooling in

your blood unused. What time of day did you take your last dose , assuming

that you are splitting your T3 twice daily.

Have you had your levels of ferritin, vitamin B12, vitamin D3,

magnesium, folate, copper and zinc tested. Do you have low adrenal reserve, systemic

candidiasis, mercury poisoning caused through amalgam fillings? You need to go

through these as a process of elimination because there certainly appears to be

something that is stopping your thyroid hormone replacement from working as it

should

Go to our FILES Section and scroll down the list to 'Medical Questionnaires'

and complete the three questionnaires there and let us know how you score.

Luv - Sheila

Hi ,

Well at least you didn't sleep as soon as your head hit the pillow :)

Might it be worth you doing a T3 urine test, to see how much of it is actually

being used? I did one with Genova as part of an Adrenal stress profile..

Thing is, you know your T3 levels on 30 mcg of T3, so if you see how much is

going through it should give you an indication of cellular uptake.

If for some reason cellular uptake is bad then you'll have to tackle it... (But

I can't remember how you do that - )

The tests that Sheila has suggested are the ones which weed out the problem

areas too.

:)

  • 3 months later...

Hi Again, after months. Oops, sorry!

I've been on the T4/T3 combo (75/20mcg) for 3.5 months now. Whilst things have

eased, this week after returning from hols I've felt more drained and unhappy.

I've been accepting things for too long now...

My GP, on last 2 visits for T3 renewals has said I will need to get a letter

from a consultant to back up my need for T3 (my levels were " normal " ). T3 being

20x more expensive. I told him I didn't care as I've paid my taxes for all my

working life, etc, etc. He said that wouldn't matter in todays cash-strapped

NHS. Gulp.

My GP prescribed T4=50, T3=20, but I'm burning up old stock to make the 75/25

ratio.

Here are my last 2 sets of results, 1st is just before starting T3, 2nd is a few

weeks after. These are now out-of-date as I'm now on the 75/20 regime, not my

experimental regime.

Test Units Min Max 14/03/2011 19/04/2011

pre T3 T3

Serum free TSH mu/L 0.35 5.5 2.62 0.04

Serum free T4 pmol/L 11.5 22.7 20.6 14.1

Serum free T3 pmol/L 3.5 6.5 4.7 5.7

I've just done the questionnaires on this site: -

1) Magnesium: score 25, not significant, IMO

2) Candida: score 70; " yeast problems possibly present "

3) Adrenals: " mild degree of adrenal fatigue " , total score=79, severity=1.84

4) Hormones

Cortisol=5,

DHEA=5,

Growth=9

Melatonin=6,

Pregnenolone=5

TESTOSTERONE=15 !!

From the above, testosterone would be the next thing to check out. This would

concur with what a personal trainer told me. He suggested eating lots of nuts as

I wasn't progressing as rapidly as he thought I should. I definitely suffer from

low-libido, foggy mind, low energy, poor sleep, yadda yadda.

Also (yawn) whilst at that gym, I did a " max heart-rate " test with breathing

appratus to measure calorific output, or something. The tester was very suprised

by the very low calories burned, indicating a very slow metabolism. Note, this

was whilst on 100mcg T4.

Sorry for all the information, but if I can have some concrete steps for whats

next, I would be really grateful! I'm thinking testosterone and cortisol as well

as full normal bloods

Many thanks
