Guest guest
Don't take your iron anywhere near to your thyroid supplement - it needs to be taken at least four hours away. However, I doubt very much that your ferritin level would have risen very much on 46mgs iron as that is only a small dose. Are you taking high doses of vitamin C e.g. 4/5000mgs daily. You need this to help the iron absorb into the cells. I think with your temperature drop , feeling sleepy, weak legs and cold it is more likely to be that you are suffering one of the various conditions that go along with being hypothyroid that needs checking out and treating, as it sounds as if the thyroid hormone isn't being properly absorbed at cellular level. However, it does sound as if you are taking your HC and Armour whenever you feel like it at different times during the day, which is not the thing to do. You should be taking both your HC and your Armour in split doses. HC usually 3 times daily with food and Armour twice daily, an hour away from food. HC with breakfast, then lunch and tea time. Armour one hour before breakfast and around 2.00/3.00p.m. in the afternoon and it is important that both are taking at the same time each day. You should also wait at least 3 weeks before increasing your Armour dose and increases are usually recommended of half a grain (30mgs). If you believe your shakiness and other symptoms came from taking too much Armour, then you should decrease your dose and see if that helps, as you say, it is difficult to know whether your symptoms are related to your thyroid or to the HC, but temperatures lowering are usually adrenal related. We are all individuals and each one of us needs a different dose of thyroid supplements - this can only be found by titrating the dose up or down as you feel necessary. Also, you don't take thyroid supplements to bring the TSH in line, you take them to get rid of your symptoms, and when taking natural thyroid extract, blood tests tell you very little. Luv - Sheila Anyway, yesterday I started getting shaky and it was from too much Armour. So I took an extra dose of HC and went to bed, slept very well. Today I took my 45mg of Armour in the morning and felt a little odd( sleepy, weak legs and cold ) and my temp dropped to 36.2, which has not happened in a long time. I was averaging about 36.6 when on 1.25 grains - but was really tired when I would take each HC dose. Is it possible that someone only needs 75mg of Armour to feel well? I thought the T3 reduced the TSH so much that you had to have full replacement versus just taking a little to make up for what your thyroid does not make. Guest guest
Hi, Thank you for the response. I take Armour sublingually and it works, I know you do not agree, but many people still take it that way. Since I do that, I can take my iron and other supps whenever as there is no problem. I take my HC exactly I should, 10mg-7.5mg-5mg and 2.5mg before bed in four hour intervals. The only reason I took extra was I felt hyper and knew my adrenals needed extra support. I take Armour with each dose of HC. I think I just do not need 1.5grains of armour and the T3 to T4 ratio is not right for me, I will get new labs to see where my T4 levels are. Regarding the iron, I was taking 100mg per day and when I had my last panel, my TIBC was low indicating I could not absorb more than 18-27mg. I actually do not feel too bad, a lot of my hypo symptoms are gone and I seem to feel my best when the HC wears off, it makes me feel more hypo when I take it, but since I am not optimized I am going to keep my dose of HC the same. However, I wonder if I am trying to optimize my thyroid levels along side too much HC??
