trying to get right treatment for my mother.

Hi every one.

I am a new member at my wits end with the lack of treatment my 79 yr old mother

is obtaining and need some answers from any one who could help get her on the

mend.

After RAI treatment to knock out her thyriod sept 2009 her nhs consultant

treated her with 100mcg levothyroxine, this dosage was deemed to be correct, and

because her bloods have always been within the so called range, have not been

altered until 6-8 weeks ago.

From 2009 and even now she has been presenting symptoms of gaining weight ( 1

1/2 stone )excsessive fatigue, constant muscle and joint pain,lack of strength

in her hands,unable to walk any distance without help, and in my opinion worse

off than before any treatment.

Recently I did manage to convince our GP that she could be suffering

possibly,from reverse tissue syndrome, and he agreed to try less T4, and

introduce additional T3. Dosage is at present, 75mcg T4and 10mcg of T3.

However, there has been no further adjustment to either T4 or T3 anmd my

mother's condition remains exactly the same.

Becuase of this we have now changed to a new consultant at a london hospital,

however he is not that impressed with the possibility of RT3 syndrome and is

reluctant to test for it.

Has any one got suggestions that may help.

Hi there, i take it your mother had graves disease.! well it depends on how much of her thyroid is left undamaged. the dose she is on seems a bit low to me, but one possability is that she is not converting the T4 to T3, or she needs more tests for the adrenals and other hormones IE: progesterone , estrogen. she may benefit from some progesterone cream, it protects us women from ostoprosis.get the RT3 done privately if doctor is reluctant. you could try buying natural thyroid for her to try. 100mcg of levo= 1 grain natural thyroid . details of where to buy in files. if she dos better on this then this would be an indecation that she`s not converting very well. this sometime happens when we get older. angel.
