Guest guest
Hi Saw GP again today after sending the second letter. he was very miffed at being asked politely to update his knowledge`not something I should say to a GP`. I replied i was sorry he felt that way. He said he had no knowledge of some of the tests and how to interpret them(honest!!) I , a little cheekily, said I could get them interpeted for his guidance but he said he`d sooner leave it to the specialists. he said he worked 12 hour days and much of `this` was outside his remit and competence as a GP (honest again!) He didnt want to refer me to an endo so soon in case it proved to be simply undermedication as initially that was what a specialist would focus on,plus tests. He wanted to retest in 3 months, but I don`t want it dragging on so I asked for 2 months as a compromise and he agreed. He agreed to some of the tests he was comfortable with -bone profile, ferritin,Vitamin D and B12 so I did make some headway. I pointed out a rising trend in my TSH over 12months 2.0, 2.14, 3.0, 3.3. (0.3-5.5) I was diagnosed in 2004 with a TSH of 6.7,deemed to be `mildly hypothyroid` and it has reached that number on one other occasion, probably when I was taken off thyroxine altogether in 2006 for three months. I stressed that I want to find out if my dosage is right v my many symptoms and how I feel and if there is anything preventing proper cellular usage. My family history includes pernicious anaemia followed by thyroid failure-so undiagnosed hypothyroidism and a possible hypothyroid in another family member with symptoms. Your recommended an intial letter, signs and symptoms some weeks back.I have asked for those to be added to my records and guess what? he has lost them! So he needs a new copy.Having metaphorically `beaten him over the head` with information, I will now drag him along bit by bit. I sense I will achieve nothing more at this stage by haranguing him,I ve more chance of keeping him on board by going along with him on this. We still disagree about TSH and blood test reference ranges but he is listening. I see no purpose in changing GP within the practice as I would have to start all over again to educate them I don`t have the time or the energy for that. Obviously I`ll post the blood test results in due course. Incidentally what do you think of my last ones, TSH 3.3(0.3-5.5) FT3 5.1(<7.1) FT4 15.2 (11.5-22.7) I would like your interpretation please. Thanks Chrissie
