Hello Imogen and welcome to our thyroid support forum. I hope

you get all the help and support that you need here.

My name is Imogen and I've just joined this group after reading

'Your Thyroid and how to keep it healthy'. The book was a real eye opener for

me, and really gave me hope that there is a better future.

Dr Peatfield's book will become your bible. He is in the process

of writing another one with even more detail about how patients let down by the

NHS can look after their thyroid/adrenal health.

My primary concern is, of course, to feel better and get to

the point where my condition is being properly treated. But I also have

concerns about my second son, who I think may be hypothyroid as well .. perhaps

more of that later.

For yourself, check out the 'Hypothyroidism' FOLDER in the FILES

section of this forum web site http//health.groups//group/thyroid treatment

, click on FILES in the Menu and scroll down to 'Hypothyroidism' - open this folder,

and scroll down to the document " Why Thyroid Hormone Stops Working " .

Check all the associated conditions that go along with being hypothyroid and

see if any of these could be what is stopping your thyroxine from doing what it

should. Whilst there, also scroll to the Folder entitled 'Medical

Questionnaires' and answer those for adrenals, candida and magnesium and see

how you score. You can get a 24 hour salivary adrenal profile done by Genova

Diagnostics (see FOLDER entitlted 'Discounts on Tests and Supplements') where

you can get your levels of cortisol and DHEA checked out. If you feel your

problem is Candida, you can get tested to see if you have candida antibodies

here too. If you suffer with any of these, your thyroid hormone cannot be

properly utilised at the cellular level, until you have been treated.

Ask your GP also to check your levels of ferritin, vitamin B12,

vitamin D3, magnesium, folate, copper and zinc because again, if any of these

are low in the reference range, thyroid hormone is unable to get into the

cells. If your doctor tries to tell you that there is no connection between

these minerals/vitamins and thyroid disease, show him the attached document .

I'm on 175mcg Levothyroxine daily, which I am beginning to

think is quite a lot ... am I right? I really want to get off it ASAP as I know

it's not answering the problems. And, of course, I am currently having

Cognitive Behavioual Therapy on the NHS, having asked for more help and been

told I was depressed. Well, I was, naturally!

Is there any possibility you could see either Dr Peatfield or Dr

Skinner. You can check out Dr Peatfield's clinic schedules in our web site www.tpa-uk.org.uk in the right hand column

of the Home Page.

Luv - Sheila

Looking forward to 'meeting' you all,

Imogen
