Why's my haemoglobin better but my ferritin worse?

Hi all

after months of taking my iron in the right way, my frritin's gone down from 30

to 26. I've read the article in the files on here which explains why this can

happen, but what I don't understand is how my haemoglobin has actually managed

to go up from 11.2 to 12.2. This is the best it's ever been! Does this mean my

ferritin will be going up soon too? It's still safe to take my iron right? And I

could still be getting symptoms because my ferritin's low? My ongoing concern is

that I can't tolerate any levo increase (which I desperately need) because I get

a racing pulse, anxiety etc and generally feel toxic. Could this be down to the

low ferritin even though my haemoglobin's going up?

Thanks!

Not necessarily will your ferritin rise at the same time as your

haemoglobin - it depends on how much iron you are taking, you may not be taking

enough to get enough storage iron and might be using it up as you make it. Tell

us what dose and what elemental iron you are taking and are you taking high

doses of vitamin C (to bowel tolerance) - e.g. approximately 4/5000 mgs daily

with orange juice. Are you eating foods rich in iron?

I would suggest you do the three Medical Questionnaire in our

Files section 9accessible from the Home Page Menu of this forum. Scroll down -

the folders are all alphabetical - so go to 'M' and answer the adrenal, candida

and magnesium questionnaire and let us know how you score.
