Guest guest
Hi, sorry only just seen this post Beki - but just thought I had to let you know what the GP at my surgery said when I asked for a Vit D Test - Yes, she agreed but, wait for it - because I had been supplementing I supposedly have to wait 8 (yes eight) weeks before I do the test !!! I think not. She was obviously new out of medical school and was eager to please so I ceased the opportunity to worm a test out of her as my normal GP refuses. I went down the lines that my chloestrol was slightly raised and although they don't see it as a problem I know that sun light turns chloestrol into Vit D and maybe my D levels are low - she agreed to do on this basis and also said she'd check parathyroid too and calcuim as the three are connected. I have a good mind to just get it down. I have supplemented 2000 IU per day for a month, so not mega doses and like others say, if it's high I stop, if it's low I continue and know that I would need it. What do others think - how much would a month's supplementation affect my levels and am I right in thinking i need to be between 50 - 80 to be ok ? Interested to see what your result will be Beki and I'll post mine next week hopefully. I have been taking a Vitamin D supplement regularly and not sure if I have left enough time without taking it before the blood test?? I have not taken it today - my test is tomorrow. Will this be enough time to test my own Vitamin D levels or should I wait till next time and if so how long to leave without supplement before test? > > Oh, and I found a file explaining I need to ask for '25-hydroxy-vitamin D' test other than '1,25-dihydroxy-vitamin D' just to confirm this correct? > > Hope this makes, sense, brain foggy...... > > Ta > > Beki >
Guest guest
This is what I read about Vitamin D: From the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition.... http://www.ajcn.org/cgi/content/full/69/…The half life of it is about 8 weeks - which would mean about four months....
