Emma, how do you know that you actually need T3. Have you had a

full thyroid function test done to see your levels of serum TSH, free T4, free

T3 and had your antibodies checked to see where your levels lie. If you have

not had recent tests done, ask your GP to do these, together with tests to

check your levels of ferritin, vitamin B12, vitamin D3, magnesium, folate,

copper and zinc. If any of these are low in the range, you will need to

supplement them, before the thyroid hormone you are taking can be properly

utilised at the cellular level. Also, please check out the attached document

showing you just some of the reasons why your thyroid hormone might not be

working, and if necessary, get tested for some of these associated conditions.

Many people think they need the active thyroid hormone T3 when their thyroxine doesn't

appear to be working, but that is not always the case. Levothyroxine works for

most people, but these are usually people whose thyroid gland is not secreting

sufficient thyroid hormone. You may be one who is secreting sufficient thyroid

hormone, but it simply isn't getting into the cells, where it matters.

Go to our web site www.tpa-uk.org.uk

and click on 'Hypothyroidism' in the Menu, and in the drop down Menu, click on

'Associated Conditions' and read about these there.

I am glad that you have found us and hope that we can give you

all the help and support you need, and hopefully, you will be able to help

're-educate your doctor in the functioning of the greater thyroid system.

Luv - Sheila
