Guest guest
Hi everyone! I was diagnosed with hypothyroidism 3 months ago, after reporting symptoms to my GP for the last 3 years! Predominantly I was suffering from severe night sweats (almost 3 weeks of each month), feeling like I needed the loo all the time at night, aching muscles, rosacea on my face and general tiredness. My TSH was 7.4 and I was initially put on 50mcg, which has now been increased to 75 mcg as my TSH was still 4.3 after the 2 month blood test. My questions are: 1) My thyroid antibodies test came back " normal " , which surprised me as my mum and cousin have auto-immune hypothyroidism. Does this mean I'm definitely one of the 2% whose hypothyroidism is related to a pituitary gland problem and that there is no family connection as I'd previously thought? 2) How can I tackle my horribly unsympathetic GP? In the last 3 years he has told me that my night sweats were nothing to worry about and not an indication of anything serious, that " everyone gets tired " (his words) and that I might be depressed rather than suffering anything specific. Now, all he is concerned about is that I am back within the normal TSH range and not with how I am feeling - he does not even ask. I want to see another GP at the practice but I am afraid that they are all the same. Is this most people's experience? Thanks, .
