Guest guest
I was just wondering if anyone could please advise on what to take in order to raise my persistently low ferretin level? I have to date only been taking Gentle Iron by Solgar, which I have been taking for about two and a half years. For the first year I was taking 20mg per day and for the last 18 months I have been taking 40mg per day. On all occasions I take it with a high dose of vitamin c. Despite this my ferretin levels have never been above 23. Two years ago they were at 12. My most recent blood test this week showed them as 21. Any recommendations on a non constipating solution to this please? Many thanks in advance
Guest guest
Hi E: There can be many different reasons for this, do you have leaky gut syndrome? Do you drink coffee? Coffee depletes the body of iron along with many other nutrients. The bisglycinate form is the best form to take, it absorbs easiest through the stomach, but not if you have LGS. Here's a link which may help: http://familydoctor.org/online/famdocen/home/common/blood/009.html Cheers, JOT > I was just wondering if anyone could please advise on what to take in order to raise my persistently low ferretin level? Guest guest
I took 5 mg of copper every two days, 45 mg of zinc per day and 420 mg of ferrous sulphate per day (I think it was ferrous sulphate. It was a french product called tardyferon). After six weeks I stopped to see if my low ferritin symptoms had disappeared. They were back after 5 days so I carried on for another 6 weeks and the next time I stopped it was OK and they didn't come back. I started off with a ferritin of 36 and went up to 130. Seemed to work quite well. You can find out about the interaction between iron, copper and zinc on www.ithyroid.com. You need to go careful on the iron and stop every so often or get a blood test done so that you don't overdo it. It can be bad for the liver. Can't guarantee that it's constipation free either, - although it was for me because I was taking other stuff that has the opposite effect - but it does seem to work. MacG. Guest guest
I've just started taking Lactoferrin (also marketed as Laktoferrin) which besides being anti-fungal and many other things, is supposed to help with absorption of iron and remove any negative side effects. Can't say if it's working yet, I'm also taking Gentle Iron by Solgar with it. You're supposed to take 20mg to 100mg alongside your iron supps. Preferably not apolactoferrin which can remove iron rather than increase it (both Jarrow and Life Extension do this). I bought mine from revital.co.uk by Allergy Research Group (I decided to go for the added colostrum). It's derived from both egg and milk so check ingredients if you are intolerant to either of these. > > I was just wondering if anyone could please advise on what to take in order to raise my persistently low ferretin level?
