Guest guest
Steve, The best thing is the Grossan sinus irrigator, an attachment for a water pick that sends low pressure saline sluicing through your sinuses. It sounds gross but it works really well. Go to http://www.ent-consult.com/nasal_irr.html for more info. Regards, . Sinus problems > > > I have mild to moderate sinus problems. Guest guest
I had a doc who had a recipe for making saline solution and recommended it highly. Some people stop having the sinus with saline solution. But the nystatin powder is good too as now infections are sometimes seen as fungal in origin. I have the liquid, but will ask for powder form for this. Of course when one in on ABX all the time for these infections it would be easy to get a fungal infection. Chicken or Egg...... Guest guest
You might want to look into what is causing the sinus problems. I had a sinus infection last month that probably was due to food intolerance(eating kamut and spelt). TMJ and cavitations can also create sinus problems. Guest guest
Cheryl asked about Sinus infections: Annette's reply : I have just had a year of continual sinus infections confirmed by a CAT scan. The best thing I found to help was a steam inhaler with Tea Tree and Lemongrass oils in the water. It's fabulous. Guest guest
Steam is good. Some here mentioned putting hydrogen peroxide in the steam which I had never heard of but makes sense. Irrigating with salt water and baking soda is great too. You can even add hydrogen peroxide. The easiest is to buy a little pot shaped kind of like a jeanie's bottle with a spout so you can pour it in easily. In one side, it runs out the other side. Guest guest
Something like a Neti Pot would be very helpful for sinus infections. http://www.healthandyoga.com/html/product/neti.html They're available under different names, from different companies. I'm very pleased with mine. It flushes out the sinuses much better than inhaling fumes or snuffing up liquid.
Guest guest
I used this for years, and it was good, but nothing compared to the nasal irrigator we were discussing. Guest guest
Beth, recently started on singular to help with his sinus infections. I see some improvement. I also had him tested for allergies (none) - so if he continues to have chronic sinus problems, a CT scan is our next option. Sinus problems Hi all, Brit has had a CT scan of her ears and her sinus'. Before I had the baby(May,I think) she went in for surgery. They placed tubes(or attempted to) and were going to do a bronch. They placed one tube and the other was still there but it had to be removed. She had some matter as well as a little infection behind the ear drum in her inner ear. They didn't find anything that would be causing her gagging so that is when we decided to do these CT scans. The did it in 2 shots due to time after surgery. To make a long story short I came within DAYS of having my baby at Riley(Children's Hospital) instead of my livingroom couch(not by choice, one hour labor)).They got her results back. Her ears look ok, they healed well. BUT her Sinus' were completely blocked. This after having been on nasal steroids(admittadly I am not as good as I should be about giving them). They are talking like they may end up having to do surgery. Anyone with advice? Anyone have this surgery? Hugs BEth
Guest guest
I am glad that the labor was at least short....... sounds like one of those stories you read about in the paper To make a long story short I came within DAYS of having my baby at Riley(Children's Hospital) instead of my livingroom couch(not by choice, one hour labor)). Anyone have > this surgery? > > Hugs > BEth > sounds familiar. is basically asymptomatic (happens when you have acute sinusitis), except for occaisionally throwing up. No fever, no discharge. She had both her adnoids & tonsils removed when she was 4 and gets tubes every winter. When her scans showed two sets of impacted sinuses, the Pediatrician first upped the antibiotics. was on them for 90 days several years ago and that really made a difference. This go-round we're on something pretty powerful for 21 days - I could see the difference (in her general behavior) within 12 hours of the first dose. Both my husband and dad have had the nasal scraping/evacuating procedure. It's not present but when nothing else will do it is very necessary. Long term sinusitis can lead to life threatening conditions including brain infections. The procedure is particularly difficult in DS kids because the passages are so small (and so close to the brain). - Becky
Guest guest
I don't know if anyone else does this for sinus problems, but Sudafed Children's Nasal Decongestant helped Mark when he was younger. (purple box) I gave it to him every morning and night during the fall, winter and spring months. It worked very well for him! His ENT recommends children's Sudafed too, and said it was OK for me to give it to him every day like I did. Mark seems to have gotten over this sinus problem as he has gotten older, and it's been several years since I've done this. Now he takes an occasional adult Sudafed pill if he needs it. Guest guest
Hi Bob, Welcome to the Stilligan's support group! So you have met the "dragon" also hey? I'm thinking maybe it is a "Chameleon" dragon, as it keeps changing.....when we get one problem under control another one or more appear. Well, I have been plagued with sinus problems especially in the Winter months. (Wisconsin) I use Rhinocort (a nasal spray by script) and it helps some...however what has really helped to keep my sinuses clear is something I purchased from our local Nutrition Center. I use a solution of warm water and sea salt, put it in this little container that looks like Aladdins lamp, and rinse my sinuses. My husband says.."yuk," but it really works. I am sure your local "vitamin store," or "nutrition store," will know what this is about.. It's called a "Neti Pot." About the high BP. Some of the meds I take cause high blood pressure, so I take another medication to lower it. Vicious circle isn't it? I take a med called Avapro and it is helping....but, I did try many others before finding one that helped lower the BP without a lot of side effects. Hope this helps a little bit Bob. How long have you had the Stills Disease, what meds are you taking? Also...at 7' 1" and 300 lbs...I think the Green Bay Packers are looking for you! from Wisconsin, Tricia -- Sinus problems Hi there, my name is Bob Hinga and I am one of the lucky ones to have the same problem. I thing that is a real problem for me is when things kick up on me is that I stand 7'1" and weigh around 300lbs. I was interested to see if anyone has ongoing sinus problems with this disease. I have been looking for some time for a solution. Having high blood pressure also is a real problem. The doctor has tried several different meds. but to no avail no relief. If someone has any ideas I would love to here themThanksBob Hinga hydrants5@... ____________________________________________________ IncrediMail - Email has finally evolved - Click Here

My meds for the disease are Indomethacin for the inflamation and protonix to protect the stomach. It does help real well for the stomach. Guest guest
Hi Bob, I have frequent sinus problems from allergies, colds or who knows what! I learned a good trick this summer from a friend. Heat a small bowl of water in the microwave til it steams, then put 2 to 4 drops of tea tree oil in the water and breathe the steam. (Don't drink or ingest the tea tree oil). This can smell kinda nasty and the first few sniffs might sting your sinuses, but it did help me. Even helped clear my sinuses when I had a cold a few weeks past. My husband even uses it when his sinuses get bad, and he is usually against any " natural " medicine!! Also, some simple suggestions if your sinuses are " clogged " alot. Drink plenty of water and use the breathe-right strips at night. My doctor also told me to use guafenisin syrup when I'm really stuffed up - it helps thin the mucous and makes it easier to clear the sinuses. I am pretty sure the guafenisin is ok to use with high blood pressure but maybe check w/ doc or pharmacist to be certain. Guest guest
Many years ago now I used to have sinus problems all the time. My doctor told me to use Euphorbium comp by Heel. One spray in each nostril first thing in the morning for about 5-6 weeks and I never had a sinus problem again. It rebuilds the mucous membranes. Sinus problems are typically caused by mold and fungus. A good metal detox is another way to get rid of this for good along with probiotic supplementation.
