Hello Ann, I wasn't sure that you needed a response to your

message 75839. I did mention in my previous message that I did not think you

were allergic to thyroxine - see

" Hello

Ann - first, your story sounds very much like my own, though I was

We need a more up to date thyroid function test to see what your

free T4 and free T3 is right now.

Ann, it is always best to stick to the same subject heading when

you are asking questions about a previous message you posted as posting under

another subject heading, the messages can get missed. This one is headed 'Allergic

to Synthetic thyroxine, blood test results' and message 75839, your original

message has the subject heading Allergic

to synthetic thyroxine, what do you think Sheila?

Both natural and synthetic thyroxine (T4) is a prohormone that

has to convert to the active thyroid hormone triiodothyronine (T3) through the

liver, kidneys and other thyroid hormone receptors. It is T3 the body needs.

There is a large minority of us who are unable (for many and varied reasons) to

convert T4 into T3 so we do not get any benefit being on levothyroxine-only.

The thyroxine lies in the blood with nowhere to go causing symptoms of

toxicity, which people put down to being 'allergic' to the thyroxine - or

alternatively, the T4 does convert to T3, but not all of this gets into the

cells and it too can pool in the blood, causing again, symptoms of toxicity.

I have attached a document that will show you several of the

associated conditions that go along with being hypothyroid that actually stop

the thyroid hormone from getting into the cells and any one of these needs to

be checked for and if found, whatever is seen to be a possible cause must be

treated.

Very few people are allergic to thyroxine - but you might have

an intolerance to one of the fillers. Such people are better off by getting a

pure thyroxine from dale's Pharmacopeia or changing to a natural thyroid

extract.

Thyroid hormone levels being within the 'normal' reference

interval are nothing whatsoever to do with other results showing inflammatory

arthritis - these conditions are both different.

Luv - Sheila

Hi Sheila, I have posted my blood test results

that you asked for quite a few days ago, I believe the message no. was 75839

with the reference ranges on it. Both T3 and T4 show 'normal' within the range,

had high inflammatory markers when pains in joints, all the information I have

given you. If both Free T3 was within the Normal range and Free T4 within the

Normal range, then why did I have Inflammatory Arthritis when on synthetic

thyroxine? Perfectly O.K. now on Erfa with no pains at all. Anyone out there

know whats going on?

Hi Sheila, I am still not sure about this T3 business. My Free T3 in July was

5.4 ref. range 2.3 - 6.5. I went, in July to see a private endocrinologist and

she wouldn't treat me with T3 as my Free T3 levels were within the 'Normal'

range. You said in your message 'Alternatively, the T4 does covert to T3 but

not all of this gets into the cells and it too can pool in the blood causing

again symptoms of toxicity'. So it looks like the T3 was not getting into my

cells, anyway this endocrinologist wouldn't give me T3 support. So as I was in

such pain with on other alternative I had to switch to natural dessicated

thyroid what else could I do? I don't know if I was allergic to any of the

fillers but I did try lots of different brands of synthetic thyroxine with all

the same result. I had a lot of bloating in my body and swellings in my knees

and ankles at the time with so much pain I couldn't walk.

I also still can't understand why I was so ill three years ago and couldn't get

out of bed because of feeling so exhausted yet my blood test result at the time

only showed I was not that much over the Normal range to be Hypothyroid yet

other people I have read on the Thyroid sites and my sister were not as bad as

me yet had a very high blood test result of having Hypothyroidism. This doesn't

give me any confidence in blood test results at all, and it seems that doctors

and even endocrinologists do not know enough about Hypothyroidism, which is very

serious. At the time of my first blood test in 2007 I was seriously ill and

couldn't even move or hardly keep my eyes open so why was my thyroid blood test

only revealing I was 'sub-clinical' with Hypothyroidism? It just seems that I

am always fighting for human rights within the NHS as I have been through

medical negligence before with another condition which wasn't properly diagnosed

with which there was disastrous results of which I am still today trying to deal

with. I think the medical profession in this country is really 'bent' or

corrupt and I think it is very dangerous at times to people's well being and

health. There is a book I came across on the internet which you might find

interesting which I am going to try to read at one time called 'Dirty Medicine'

if you google it you will see, that a lot has been uncovered by a journalist and

is very interesting.

Thanks for your help.

I have got the book Ann - it tells of the terrible things

that go on behind the scenes between Big Pharma and medicine - they will stop

at nothing to get their way. It is truly terrifying and you will not believe

what you read. It is very big book with about 600 pages. If you have straight

hair, reading this is guaranteed to make it curl.

Hi all, just read about a new book called= White coat, black hat (beacon press) £22.99.Subtitled adventures on the dark side of medicine, this detailed and gripping investigation by bio-ethicist Carl Elliott describes how pharmaceutical company`s routinely manipulate the research and marketing of drugs. that doesn`t mean all drugs are bad ; but? it does mean that MONEY is invariably the bottomline. a bit pricey so will pass on buying this book, but their is a lot of info on the net about drug company`s. Regards Angel.
