Just say to your GP your off it and then admit your not after the event......dont take it the morning of your test and take immediately after the blood tests has been done. take what he is offering...but if you have previously had blood tests why does it matter that you are off it now...he must have previously tests to make the judgement that your thyroid is failing. say you have noticed an improvement and you really didnt want to let that go. Only reveal this once he has given you his impression of your test results.sally xx

My GP who insists I have CFS though admitted my thyroid is failing, has offered to do a few blood tests but says I need to get off the Armour I've been on for three weeks and wash out for six weeks before he'll do the Free T4,Free T3 and Reverse T3, which I've requested amongst others.I'm reluctant to stop taking my Armour as I've seen a little improvement in the short time and I'm keen to get better. Can anyone advise me please what they would do? (By the way I never asked him to do the TSH as we'd done that two weeks ago and it was 2.90 so he didn't accept I had hypo.)

Hi Jackie,

I am sorry you are having such a battle. What a pain in the butt.

I would let your doc rant about these studies....each time he mentions one say oops sorry a minute can you give me the reference for that one. I have a librarian friend who is able to collect stuff from the medical library ..... I would like to take a look at the studies to which you refe they sound interesting even though you havent convinced me, perhaps giving me the details or even better a copy of the paper and I can go through it myself.

I feel sure he wont have references and further wont like you looking, but even further you can slip in oh by the way was that study funded by the drug company do you think?

What a wally.....anyhow well done you not to be intimidated and keep being strong. Sally xx

I just pity his other patients, he was justifying levothyroxine and bragging about his double blind crossover trials at the surgery, he was giving placebos and (he said) people were getting better. Yeah right, 'better', now there's a subjective word! We, on this forum know that rarely do people get really better on synthetic thyroid let alone a placebo, in fact I've read that people often get worse. But I haven't got the energy (yet!) to fight for those other patients, I have to take care of myself so I can look after my family.
