Hi Vickyanne

EBV is the the virus which causes glandular fever. I had it and am now, 5 years

on certainly becoming hypo though convincing the Drs of this isn't always easy

once they are stuck in one mindset. I am told I have CFS but that is now

changing I hope. EBV is a very damaging virus so it seems feasible that it could

trigger longer term damage to the thyroid gland. I've been trying to find more

concrete evidence of this lately but there isn't too much out there.

Hi

Many thanks for your reply.I thought that it was connected. My Daughter has only just recently been diagnosed as being hypothyroid, 3 months ago and is being treated with 50mcg Levothyroxine. She has had all the symptoms for at least 7 years and been totally housebound and she is only 24 years old. It took many Endos to get to this point.

Her TSH had been at around 8.62 for at least 3 years, and that is what is know to us.

It was only by having comprehensive blood tests done last year that we found out about her being positive to the EBV and there was evidence of very recent reactivation.

Again thanks for your reply.
