Guest guest
Firstly Lizzie can I ask why you did change? Also it might be a good idea to stay on a littleERFA since you get Calcitonin T1 and T2 and T4 alongside T3 which your body uses....calcitonin is particularly useful for keeping good bone and teeth health.. How much are you taking aT3 and how much ERFa were you taking? Dont panic....lets think this through...when is your endo appointment? Sally xx Hi Everyone,Can't describe at the moment how stressed I am becoming at the thought of my forthcoming endo appointment.I changed over on my own from Erfa to T3 only and plucked up the courage to send an email via the consultants secretary telling him what I had done.Typically I have not had a reply and am so worried now. I know I won't be able to explain why or how I did it because I will be in such a fluster, that was why i decided to write in the first place. Please send me some positive vibes.Love Lizzie
Guest guest
hello lizzie between now and your appintment, if you can, try and take some slow deep inhales (your chest should rise but not your shoulders) and let the exhale be a bit longer and as you exhale, make sure you don't slump down ...the longer exhale will help create space for the health giving and mind calming oxygen enriched inhale. i think what you need is a practical solution to your stressed state ...i find it helpful to write things down...perhaps you could write out why you changed from erfa to t3 and also write out how you feel now as a result of the change. you could also add all the supplements you are taking in order to supprt your health. if you have written everything down then you have the option to read from your paper or hand the paper to the endo. i know how you feel and also know how easy it is to become a complete gibbering wreck!!!! will be thinking of you tomorrow and sending positive vibes trish > > Hi Everyone, > > Can't describe at the moment how stressed I am becoming at the thought of my forthcoming endo appointment. > > I changed over on my own from Erfa to T3 only and plucked up the courage to send an email via the consultants secretary telling him what I had done. > > Typically I have not had a reply and am so worried now. Guest guest
Lizzie, For a start, HE should be worried, not you. You have done what you thought best for yourself and let him know, and he doesn't even have the good manners to reply to your message!!!! The Endo is not God, he should be more knowledgeable than an average GP, because he has chosen to specialise, but the idea is, that he's supposed to listen to you, examine you and work with you to achieve a solution.... He's not supposed to dictate to you and he's not Omniiscent, Omnipotent and Omnipresent much as he would like you to believe he is If you hadn't told him what you'd done, he wouldn't know although he might suspect it from a blood test as you would have hight T3 and low T4. Write down your reasons for changing, and what you think the problem is and how you believe it can be solved add any test results you have, and photocopy it. You keep a copy and give him a copy at the meeting if he starts to ask you questions. Much better if you are both reading a page each than you trying to remember what you said. The endo is there to advise and guide, but YOU are ultimately responsible for what you take or don't take, and this includes his advice as well meds..... You might have to remind him of this, and if he can't handle it, you will have to sack him and find someone you can work with. Remember, they work for you. xx > > Hi Everyone, > > Can't describe at the moment how stressed I am becoming at the thought of my forthcoming endo appointment. > > Please send me some positive vibes. > h
Guest guest
This too is excellent advice from Lizzie.......Have the courage of your convictions...the reason why you changed and how you felt an improvement.....be firm even if you end up crying still be firm...(try not to cry of course; but sometimes I find I cant help it the tears just roll, but you can still be firm) if you get upset tell him this is not your normal self that this treatment isnt adequate and you are not sure why it is he would want you to remain this ill. Guest guest
Hi everyone Well I went to see the endo today. He was not happy about my decision to change my medication and basically said that I have changed it according to my symptoms and then I expect him to rubber stamp it. Blood results 27 hours since last dose of T3. Tsh 0.01, T3 3.9, T4 1.9 He said that my TSH was surpressed so I was taking too much, that a surpressed TSH will lead to osteoporosis and heart disease. He has agreed for me to stay on the dose I am on but couldn't understand why I was multidosing. When I explained about the effects on the adrenal glands he disagreed with me. He also said that T4 did not make reverse T3 and that reverse T3 did not block the receptors from receiving T3. I am pleased that he is writing to my GP to get him to prescribe the t3 and I see him 6 months on the understanding that I do not change my dosage up or down. Well at least it's over now and out in the open. Love Lizzie > Thanks for the good positive vibes. Guest guest
Oh Lizzie, You bad girl! How dare you treat according to symptoms, whilst ignoring the holy miracle of the infallible blood tests ) What a prat of an endo.... bet his specialism is not Thyroid... if it is, he should be sacked or maybe we should put him in the stocks. All this rubbish about a suppressed TSH giving you osteporosis is because the silly endo's have got their heads in a muddle. High T3 as in Graves disease will give you problems and because of the high T3 the TSH is supressed.... so they now belive that a low TSH causes problems.... it's not a low TSH it's high T3 that is the problem. If he's worried, get him to send you for a bone density test. You haven't put the reference ranges, but if the t4 and T3 are in range, why is he worried about the tsh being out of range? If Reverse t3 is not a method of breaking down unused T4, what is it then... and where does the unused T4 go? I want to meet this idiot and grrrrrrrrr...... perhaps better if I don't. Well done for standing your ground, but I fear you are not going to get far with such an unenlightened idiot..... x > > > Hi everyone > > Well I went to see the endo today. > > He was not happy about my decision to change my medication and basically said that I have changed it according to my symptoms and then I expect him to rubber stamp it. > >
Guest guest
Hi Lizie Well done for getting the T3 prescribed, sounds like the fella has given in, so he should he is not that clued up obviously!! I got the T3 prescribed even though the endo did refer to me as an old car?? How they can be so negative when you are obviously feeling the beneifit of the T3 is beyond me. Luv Stephie > > > > > > I am pleased that he is writing to my GP to get him to prescribe the t3 and I see him 6 months on the understanding that I do not change my dosage up or down. > > Well at least it's over now and out in the open. > >
Guest guest
Hi Lizie I'm curious to know how much T3 you were on and how much your endo prescibed? Guest guest
Hi Jacquie, He has prescribed 80 mcg daily. Lizzie > I'm curious to know how much T3 you were on and how much your endo prescibed?
Guest guest
Wow that is quite a dose....do be careful when building up to this dose Lizzie....dont just take 80 because he suggested it you must listen to your body.....if you get any heart palps for example it may be 1. because you have built up the dose too quickly 2. because you are taking too much so if those symptoms of hyper occur just pull back and then try increasing again in a couple of weeks and if this is still a probl it likely because the dose is too high..... But I personally would just tell the doc that is what you are on and then just keep getting your prescription...you may need to increase in the future and have a problem getting an increased prescription if say you were ok for a while on 60mcgs but later needed 80....anyhow welldone its a good outcome for you. Guest guest
Hi Sally, I am actually on T3 only since last October, I am taking 70 mcg, but said 80mcg to give me a little leeway for adjustment and as the tabs are 20mcg thought it would make it easier all round.
