Hello

I have not done in research on fathering a child while on Gleevec.

I know that I have been warned not to get pregnant while on Gleevec

due to the fact that I cant take the medication whie I am pregant. You

might want to ask she is 28 years has lots of information. She is

pregant and got off Gleevec until the baby is born. Check out her

Hi Efrem,

There have been a number of members who have fathered healthy babies

while they were on Gleevec. I've also heard of a few men who have gone

off Gleevec for a couple of weeks and fathered their children during

this break and there were some who banked sperm before they started

Gleevec for future use.

Some doctors have suggested that fathering a child should be avoided

but others have said that there isn't a problem so it's really an

individual choice with no obvious right or wrong answer.

Then my question is, as to the doctor's who warn men not to father a child while

on Gleevec, what are the problems, harms, or dangers?

The reason they warn against it is purely out of precaution since we

don't fully understand what (if any) effects Gleevec may have on

sperm. There isn't any evidence (to my knowledge) that shows there

actually is a problem though.
