Hi Georgie and welcome to our forum where I hope you get all the

help and support you need. Well, as your doctor thinks all natural medicines

are ridiculous I would happily tell him that such a statement, coming from a

doctor who should know better, is quite ridiculous too and I would run a mile

to get as far away from such an idiot as possible. A doctor who thinks like

this will NEVER get you well. Either decide to treat your thyroid health

yourself, or find a doctor who will respect his patients and listen to what

they have to say.

Go to our FILES section, which you will find on the Home Page of

this forum web site http://health./grouop/thyroid treatment

 - click on FILES. On the page that opens, click on the FOLDER 'Natural Thyroid

Extract' and you can learn all about Armour there in the various files. Open the

one entitled 'How to Use Natural Thyroid Extract' and that will give you the

low down on treating using this. Later, scroll down the list of Files again and

open the folder entitled 'Internet Pharmacies' and there you will see where you

can buy natural thyroid extract without a prescription. The best one to go for

is the Erfa 'Thyroid' which is actually licensed in Canada. You can buy this

from www.valuepharmacueticals.com

- they call their product 'Armour' but it is the Erfa 'Thyroid'. It costs about

£99 for 500 tablets. Just remember to tick the little box 'No Prescription

Required'.

Scroll down the FILES further to find the FOLDER entitled

'Discount on Tests and Supplements' and as a member of TPA, you can order your

24 hour salivary adrenal profile (and any other tests you need) from Genova Diagnostics.

Follow the instructions to get your discount and mention that 'Thyroid Patient

Advocacy' is your medical practitioner. Don't worry, the results will go direct

to you, and not to me. If you are found to be suffering with low adrenal

reserve, you can buy the recommended adrenal supplements from Nutri Ltd, where,

again as a TPA member, you can get 33% discount.

Take this one step at a time. I would first buy Dr Peatfield's

book 'Your Thyroid and How to Keep it Healthy' where you will learn a lot about

thyroid and the other associated conditions that go along with this disease. He

teaches you how you can diagnose, treat and monitor your illness. It's quite brilliant.

We are finding that those who are getting back their normal

thyroid/adrenal health are those who have taken their health into their own

hands.

I do have a list of doctors who are happy to treat using T4/T3

combination, either synthetic or natural if their patients are not doing well

on levothyroxine, so let me know if you would like me to send you a copy, which

I will do so privately as we do not mention doctors names on this forum.

You might ask your GP meanwhile to check your levels of the

following minerals and vitamins because if any of these are low in the

reference range, no amount of thyroid hormone can be properly utilised at

cellular level. And, just in case he says there is no call to check these

levels, I have added some links to show the connection to those suffering the

symptoms of hypothyroidism.

You can be assured that if your 24 hour salivary adrenal profile

does show that you have a problem, that no NHS doctor will treat it, unless it

shows that you have 's Disease (little or no cortisol secretion) or

Cushing's Syndrome (too high a level of cortisol secretion). So you will have

to treat this condition yourself, but this presents no problem as there is

plenty of information in our Adrenals Section of the FILES SECTION.

You WILL get back your life, but you just need a little determination

and patience. Others will help you here so if you have any questions, just

shout, and somebody will be along. Believe me, there IS light at the end of

this tunnel.

Luv - Sheila

I am also going to do the adrenal/cortisol test to see if this would help.

However, I am worried that if it shows I need medication to improve these

levels, my doctor won't agree to prescribe anything. I'd be really interested

to know how other people have got on with this and what you advise.

Would love to hear about anyone's experiences with self-medication and if their

hypothryoidism is being successfully managed. Will I ever feel 'normal' again?

Right now I feel that my life is small and miserable - I want my life back!

Thank you so much! There's a lot of information to get through... It might be a

long journey, but at last I feel like there is some hope. Anything has to be

better than this!

I would appreciate it if you'd email the list of doctors who might prescribe

T4/T3/natural dessicated thyroid. Many thanks.

I also wonder if anyone knows much about Cushing's syndrome? I was diagnosed

with PCOS and many symptoms are the same. I was wondering if the 24 hour adrenal

saliva test would give any indication about this?

Thanks for all of this. This place is amazing!

Georgie :)
