Guest guest
All hypothyroid or those who may become Hypo must get paper copies of their blood test results inc ref ranges because this is often the only way their disease can be picked up My husband was well into myxodeama madness with a TSH of 2.9(0-5) and a Free T4of 19 (10-24) It was only because after a sub total thyroidectomy for Graves Disease 6 yrs prior and after referrals to almost every speciality under the sun for the myriad of symptoms he was suffering and despite me constantly asking "are you sure he is not now underactive " That the GP spotted that his levels had been dropping bit by bit over the course of 6 years that he even got a referral to a Prof in London after the local Endo had cruelly dismissed him as fit and well It is therefore vital that you get a copy of your results and keep them in a file so you too can monitor whats going on Its no good receptionists saying "normal " thats what now will go on computer records and the actual paper result will be destroyed Equally if like my husband and daughter you have Hashimotos but also so called rare CENTRAL HYPOTHYROIDISM your TSH will be very low or non existant and MUST NEVER BE RELIED UPON plus you must have your T4 and T3 levels maintained right at the top of the range So everyone do make very very sure you get a copy of the results and reference ranges and be your own monitor of your disease Much the same can be said for other results like ESR because these can monitor the levels of inflamation in the body especially in Hashimotos etc Pat
