Guest guest
Hi everyone (sorry this is a long message) i have recently been diagnosed with Auto-immune hypothyroidism this January. It all atarted last June when i had a sinus operation and decided to give up smoking after 18 yrs at the same time. Within 8 weeks i started having bowel problems, slight weight gain and just generly feeling tired which got worse so i decided to see my GP who referred me to my local hospital for tests. They picked up that my thyroid was underactive and sent me to the endocrine clinic. The doctor there advised to have 2 repeat blood tests and not to put me on Thyroxine to soon in case my thyroid settled down due to the sinus operation i had. The first blood test was looking better and the second showed signs of underactive again so my doctor instruced that i was to take 100mg of Thyroxine. I have 5 family members with this disease and they all complain about there symptoms so i decided to see a natural practitioner and she put me on some T-lyph and within 4 days my skin cleared up and most of my symptoms had gone. When i had a follow up at the clinic i told the doctor what i had done and showed him my NDT med's and he was very rude and insisted i came off them and i told him that having so many family members on it with all symptoms and my sister having lots of palpitations that it frightened me with all the side effects and i preffered to try a natural alternative but he said i could not been seen in his clinic so i agreed to take a smaller dose of 50mg of thyroxine. i have not taken any yet and was hoping you all could help me to see if i should try it? 1st blood tests before treatment with NDT TSH 45 / FT4 8 / TPO antibodies? 2nd blood test before treatment with NDT TSH 22 / FT4 10 / TPO antibodies >600 (shows improvement without treatment) 3rd blood test before NDT TSH 37 / FT$ 8 / TPO ? Recent tests after 8 weeks on NDT taking 1 tab daily TSH 18.6 / FT4 12.8 / TPO antibodies >600 blood pressure is low 90/52 i have upped my dose to 2 tablets daily recommended by my natural practioner but this past week i have been feeling a bit tired in the afternoons, i have woke up a few nights with a numb leg and arms. Before i started taking 2 tabs daily for 4 days i had a really bad hives looking rash which was mainly on my arms and made my face and hands swell (allergy blood test came back normal) I would appreciate some advice on whether i should start on the thyroxine and whether the symptoms are adrenal issues?
