Guest guest
Hi I wonder if anyone has any advice or has experienced this?: I'm really struggling at the moment as I feel pretty ill with the usual hypot symptoms. I've been taking Armour (prescribed by GP) for about 6 weeks now but I seem to be intolerant of it. I started with a small dose of 1/2 grain, built up to 1 grain (slowly, exactly as per the files) before I started getting headaches and my joint pain increased. I reduced it and tried after a while to increase it but kept getting headaches. I've also tried starting from 1/4 grain each day but even now on the 2nd day I am getting bad joint pain and migraine-like headache, alongside the hypot symptoms (of course!). Is this something I need to just put up with or should I not be feeling worse? I did put up with it for 3/4 days recently but nothing changed so I reduced again. I do have low ferritin (32) which I have been trying to increase for the past year using different supplements, but I don't seem to be able to increase this, so I know this isn't helping. It feels like catch 22. I tried T3 only, last year but could not tolerate that either, with the same problems. Is there any answer to this, I'm really fed up with continually going round in circles and feeling so exhausted and achy all the time. Sorry for the long, rambling post xxx Liesha
Guest guest
I believe it's been over 2 years now since Forest Pharmaceuticals changed their formula for Armour thyroid. When they changed it, many people became very ill. The new formula needs to be chewed up in the mouth before being swallowed. It no longer melts under the tongue, like the original formula. For this reason, I think there are some who feel it no longer works as well. Quite a few people switched to ERFA thyroid during this time which does melt under the tongue. Cheers, JOT > I have been reading that armour is not as effective as it used to be. Does anybody have have any information or experience of this? Guest guest
JOT - is it ok to first crush it between two spoons and put under the tongue to melt? That's what I've been doing for the last 3.5 weeks and my symptoms are improving. But I don't have anything to compare it with as this is my first thyroid med. Thanks. Guest guest
Hi J: Yes, if it is melting under the tongue and being absorbed that way then certainly... how long does it take to completely dissolve? I wake up about 5:30 am and pop my ERFA under my tongue and go back to sleep for another hour. When I get up it is all absorbed and I'm ready to face the day !! Guest guest
Yes, if it is melting under the tongue and being absorbed that way then certainly Thanks .... how long does it take to completely dissolve? It takes just a minute or two to dissolve whilst I get on preparing the breakfast, I'm obviously not as organised as you I wake up about 5:30 am and pop my ERFA under my tongue and go back to sleep for another hour. When I get up it is all absorbed and I'm ready to face the day !! Lolol, nice one! I'm currently on one grain so have half in the morning (7.15) and the other half in the afternoon (2-4ish) I sometimes notice that my energy starts to dip which reminds me to take it sometimes! Mmmmmm, I think it might be time to up my dose a little. Or I wonder if that happens to others too and is normal? Maybe when I get my cortisol saliva tests results things will become more clear? I'm doing the test tomorrow It does sound like I've done it back to front as I've read that the adrenals should be fixed before going on Armour but I didn't know that 3.5 weeks ago when I started J x
Guest guest
Well, if you are starting to feel pretty good on the Armour and your symptoms are starting to fade away, this is a good sign. With adrenals we want to make sure we are in bed by 10 pm and ready to sleep with lights out. Celtic sea salt first thing in the morning helps give them a boost too. I still take an adrenal glandular everyday and plan to take one forever just for general support. We live in such stressful times, you never know when our adrenals will start to act up again, it just takes one bad episode to hurt them. Our B vitamins and B12, B6 are so very important too, and iron. Do you suspect your adrenals are very poor? Because if you are seeing improvement, than your adrenals are probably pretty good. Our oceans are contaminated and our soil is depleted so we now have to supplement to get those nutrients in the body. We can't assume that we are getting them from our food sources anymore. I'm afraid we will all be supplementing till the end of time :0) We all get used to it after a while..... :0) Cheers, JOT > I'm currently on one grain so have half in the morning (7.15) and the other > half in the afternoon (2-4ish) I sometimes notice that my energy starts to > dip which reminds me to take it sometimes! Guest guest
Thanks for the advice re supplements JOT :)I'd be surprised if my adrenals weren't exhausted after the life I've had but will await the saliva test results and take it from there. I have been gluten free for many years and I'm sure that has helped Re improving on the Armour.... yes, but looking for more energy, my temperature to rise and also to shift the extra 3 stone I'm carrying. I'm short on height so it looks, as well as makes me feel, dreadful, but I'm optimistic I'm now on the right track :0 Thanks again, very much appreciated. Guest guest
The fillers were changed and the dextrose was removed or lowered...this appeared to have a negative effect on the effectiveness of the supplement. Some people dont mind the difference but othes do as they have become more symptomatic as a result. I use ERFA and its the same 'recipe' as the old Armour. Guest guest
Hi Vickyanne, this is due to the change in fillers they now use. so the 'recipe' for the formulae has changed. The same hormones etc but different fillers and many people now say they dont find it as effective. ERFA thyroid is the same recipe as the OLD ARMOUR......it may be worthwile taking that instead. sally xxI have been reading that armour is not as effective as it used to be. Does anybody have have any information or experience of this?Any help would be appreciated.
