Guest guest
Hi June, Depends how long you have been suffering these symptoms. all that you describe can be felt as a result of inadequate thyroid medication- either not enough or inability to utilise T4 ( conversion to T3), but note that a full replacement dose is often around 125-150mcg T4, so you have been taking only a very small dose. I can't comment on nutri thyroid and it's content- does it contain dessicated thyroid or is it vits and minerals to support the thyroid?> thyroid treatment > From: jjleehome@...> Date: Tue, 31 May 2011 10:04:30 +0000> Subject: T4 side effects> > Hi Please can you tell me what symtoms I can get taking T4.> At this moment I feel awful, flu like symtoms but no sore throat or cold. aching all over, neck, arms, legs. Guest guest
It could be some sort of virus, but more likely than not it could be that you are unable to tolerate the mainly INACTIVE thyroid hormone T4 so it could be lying around in your blood doing nothing, going absolutely nowhere and leaving you without the ACTIVE thyroid hormone T3. it is T3 that ever cell in your body and brain needs to make them function. The thyroid gland secretes about 85% T4 and about 13% T3. T4 converts through the liver, kidneys, skin, brain and other thyroid hormone receptors throughout the body into the T3 - or at least, it should, but for a large minority of us, it does not. So we need to be given T3 and NOT T4. You need to ask your GP to test your levels of free T3 and if you have not been tested previously, ask for tests to see whether you have antibodies to your thyroid, especially if you have other members of your family who have a thyroid or autoimmune disease. Check out the attached File and read about the various conditions that stop thyroid hormone from working. also, ask your GP to test your levels of ferritin, vitamin B12, vitamin D3, magnesium, folate, copper and zinc, because if any of these levels are low in the reference range, again thyroid hormone cannot be utilised at the cellular level until whatever is low has been treated. Get ALL these test results from your GP together with the reference range for each test done and post them here on the forum so we can help with their interpretation. Never allow a doctor to tell you that your results are 'normal' so you don't have a particular problem. Doctors are not taught on the whole how to read blood test results. Do you know whether you have any intolerance to lactose or maize, but I think if you did, you would have known about this. It could simply be that you are not converting to T3 and need to be referred to an endocrinologist with a view to having your thyroid hormone changed to T3. Luv - Sheila Hi Please can you tell me what symtoms I can get taking T4. At this moment I feel awful, flu like symtoms but no sore throat or cold. aching all over, neck, arms, legs. Feels like my tendons have shrunk, and terrible fatigue. I suppose it could be some kind of virus. I was on 2 NAX and 3 nutri ardrenal also 25mg T4 and 4 nutri thyroid. I am just taking adrenal supplements now and I've been on T4 for 3 months now regards June 1 of 1 File(s) Why thyroid hormone stops working (2).doc
Guest guest
Hi, for what it's worth, I used to get exactly these symptoms before I was diagnosed with adrenal and thyroid probs. Every 8 weeks or so, if I overdid things, I would have what was exactly like flu as you described - would stay in bed for 4 or 5 days and then just carry on with life as before. My doctor said it was depression (it wasn't - I was really quite happy at the time!). And now with hindsight, I realise it was my body trying to cope with both adrenals and thyroids not functioning properly. Any extra stress - a bike ride or having to do something to a deadline just sent me under.I hope you manage to sort it out. All best, Alison>> Hi Please can you tell me what symtoms I can get taking T4.> At this moment I feel awful, flu like symtoms but no sore throat or cold. aching all over, neck, arms, legs. Guest guest
Hi June You say you've only been on T4 for three months.... it could be that you haven't reached the correct dosage for you yet. You GP should be testing you every 3 months and adjusting your thyroxine according to the results. Are you due for another blood test? It could be that with an increased dosage, your symptoms will go. If you are due for another blood test in the next couple of weeks, mention your symptoms to your GP.... he might suggest a different brand of thyroxine, which might help.
