I have just received the following and if anybody who is/has been 'overactive' thyroid and would like to contribute, please contact me urgently.

Many thanks.

Sheila,

I'm writing a piece for Woman Magazine (aimed at 35-50 year old women) on thyroid disorders and have been told to find a case study of a woman who has (or has had) an over-active thyroid – we'd give TPA a big plug as a thank you.

Can you help please? My deadline is the end of the week, so time really is of the essence!

Thanks,

Matt

p.s. I normally write for the Daily Mail amongst others, so do keep in touch with any other case studies/points of interest you think should be profiled in the national media

Hi Sheila’

I was finally diagnosed in about 1995 with ‘Grave’s Disease’ after suffering with what i now know as overactive symptoms for 11 yrs. previous. When diagnosed i was medicated with Carbimazole for 2 yrs, and joined your web site and read up on my condition. I went into remission until 2004 when i had another episode. I was asked on numerous occasions to be given radio active iodine, but as i had read some horrific posts of the effects of this treatment, i declined. I was again medicated with Carbimazole for just over 2 yrs. This time however my thyroid went underactive and i was given Levothyroxine. This drug did nothing to ease my symptoms, and i was constantly in my Dr’s surgery with different ailments as my blood results were showing normal and i had previously suffered panic attack (which i now know was due to the Grave’s) they treated me with antidepressants, these didn’t help. In 2009 i was advised by a family member to request a referral to see Dr De at City Hospital in Birmingham. He prescribed Armour Thyroid and WOW within 5 days i had some quality of life back! It’s not been a miracle cure as i have to adjust my dose depending on how i feel so still have some bad days, but nowhere as bad as when i was on the Levothyroxine. i think everyone should have the right to have this drug prescribed if they want it and i encourage anyone to join your site and read about the effects of Thyroid problems and their treatments, so they know the facts when attending GP and Consultant appointments, thus helping them to make an informed choice of medication.

Your site has been invaluable to me throughout my illness as will continue to be in the future. Thank You thyroid treatment.com

I would be more than happy to contribute.  I was first diagonosed with hyperthyrodism when I was 38.  After 12 months on carbomazole, it went into remission for 11 month but it came back 5 months ago.  I am now 40 years old and am on a low dose of carbomazole.

Hi Sheila

I have been overactive and recently had a thyroidectomy. Not sure if I can be of help but would be happy to talk to her if no one else is interested. I am out with my daughter all day today but should be home tomorrow if that helps.
