Armour - current challenges

Hi Shelia,

Hope you are well. After my Dr. put me on T4 only in early Jan, I made it about

3 weeks on 50mcg before giving up - I felt terrible. I went back on 1 grain of

Armour and last week raised to 1.5 grains. My temps were stable and I am on 25mg

of HC. I am also still taking iron - 46mg per day as I was starting to feel like

86mg was too much. My ferritin was 44 in Jan, so it is probably in the 50's by

now, but I have also been told that serum iron is more important than ferritin

as far as processing thyroid hormone goes.

Anyway, yesterday I started getting shaky and it was from too much Armour. So I

took an extra dose of HC and went to bed, slept very well. Today I took my 45mg

of Armour in the morning and felt a little odd( sleepy, weak legs and cold ) and

my temp dropped to 36.2, which has not happened in a long time. I was averaging

about 36.6 when on 1.25 grains - but was really tired when I would take each HC

dose.

Before I started on thyroid hormones my TSH was 3.06, my T4 was 14 ( range

12-22) and my T3 was 3.6 ( range 2.6-6.0 I think ).

Is it possible that someone only needs 75mg of Armour to feel well?

I thought the T3 reduced the TSH so much that you had to have full replacement

versus just taking a little to make up for what your thyroid does not make.

It is so hard to tell when you are taking HC because I do not know if I am on

too much. What was happening was I would take my HC, get really tired, add the

Armour and wake-up and then feel kind of normal when the HC wore off. Then I

would take my next dose of HC and start the process all over.

Would love your thoughts on this...

Thanks!

Jen
