I recently wrote to one of the UK's top endocrinologists to ask why is it that

once people are clinically diagnosed hypothyroid they may need to be at the top

of their ranges in free T4 and free T3, but undiagnosed people with symptoms are

ignored when they are at the low end of the range. I asked the question

wouldn't it be better to supplement?

His answer was that people with hypothyroidism don't produce any T3 . He says

you cannot compare results of function tests of people taking thyroxine versus

those who don't.
