Armour advice please

After reading the TPA website, I decided to do an Armour trial shortly after new

year. Since then I have built up to 2.5 grains per day: 1 first thing, 1 mid

afternoon and half at bed time.

Two week ago I was starting to move up to 3 but began getting hot flushes and so

backed off again, although the hot flushes have persisted. I have tried 4 days

back on 100mg levothyroxine only, to see if it was due to the T3 being too high,

but to no effect.

My periods stopped at the same time as the hot flushes (only having recently

restarted since I began thyroid treatment last summer).

So now I am confused. I can't decide if the Armour dose is too low (no periods

like before I started treatment), too high (hot being symptom of

hyperthyroidism) or if I am experiencing menopause symptoms independently to

make matters more unclear (as hot flushes have not gone even though I am back at

2.5 grains).

Any advice gratefully received. My GP would not help as he would just complain

about taking the Armour in the first place. Think I need a referral elsewhere

but not sure to whom.

Thanks

KD

- Just go to your GP & tell him you think you might be starting to go

through the menopause & could he do a blood test for that but don't let him do

the thyroid test yet - that will rule the menopause in or out. If it's not that

then make a decision about whether you want to reduce or continue on NDT. Of

course there's always the chance he will insist on doing the thyroids too.

Take care,

Dorothy
