Guest guest
Hi Sue: This is one of the things that upsets me so much about the way the elderly are treated. First off, they are usually told to stop the sodium, so they all stop salt entirely, when they should be taking unrefined salt everyday. The balance problems, dizziness are usually because of adrenal fatigue and LOW ALDOSTERONE. Both from lack of the good salt and the fabulous trace minerals which they provide for the body...Their estrogen, progesterone, Testosterone is also shot along with levels of melatonin. All these hormones start draining out of us starting at 25 years of age..... Of course they will probably not test for any of those things. But be sure to ask for Free T3, Free T4 and TSH and RT3 for starters. And you are right about the heredity issues. Thyroid which goes untreated for generation to generation becomes worse through the generational years. Each subsequent generation gets it worse. That is why all children should be tested for Thyroid disease and treated as soon as possible. Cheers, JOT > TSH below range > FT4 above range > Sorry, don't have the exact figures to hand. > Now to me this shows Mum has a thyroid issue. I've asked for FT3 and RT3 bloods, but was told that the doc " wants to deal with her immediate medical issue, and take one thing at a time " . Seeing as her only treatment at the moment is another week of bed rest, I am about to challenge the doc's inaction. But wanted to get your views first as to exactly what I should be requesting, and why. > Ps - I'm hypo with adrenal weakness and often wondered if I inherited it from Mum! >
Guest guest
Hi Sue, I'm sorry to hear about your mum's fall. Yes I would agree with you and I think you should do exactly that and speak once more with the doc. I would check also her B12. A common problem with thyroid issues is to have poor nutrient absorption in the gut and B12 can cause imbalance and for people to fall over.....so there could be two things going on there for sure.....Best of luck and good job you mum has you as a caring and considerate daughter. Sally xx p.s. yes it is common to give your children your thyroid problems as a mum.....not so much from dad interestingly but mothers always seem give their kids thyroid problems if they have them. Thanks mum! Hi EveryoneMy mum is in hospital with a broken hip. She has been suffering from confusion and poor balance for about a year, with the inevitable fall happening at the end of May.On looking at her medical notes I noticed her thyroid blood tests were awry.TSH below range FT4 above rangeSorry, don't have the exact figures to hand. Now to me this shows Mum has a thyroid issue. I've asked for FT3 and RT3 bloods, but was told that the doc "wants to deal with her immediate medical issue, and take one thing at a time". But wanted to get your views first as to exactly what I should be requesting, and why.I intend to ask verbally once more then put a complaint in writing. It seems to me that confusion, poor cognitive ability, poor balance, muscle pain etc etc are thyroid issues. Particularly as she's had all the scans and they're all "fine".Thanks in advance for all help and support,SuePs - I'm hypo with adrenal weakness and often wondered if I inherited it from Mum!
