I couldn't agree more Mandy -the more people know what is going on the more

worried they will become for all the reasons you gave . The patients who become

well without their " blood tests ' and using T3 -which was the only thing that

lifted my brain fog-should eventually prove them wrong .

I know someone like this. Takes 75mcg levothyroxine - has done for years -

tested annually - no idea what is tested or her levels - says she has no

symptoms, but never goes anywhere or does anything, is overweight, obviously has

water retention issues and has no eyebrows - not at all.

However, she would say she is fine and had no symptoms before diagnosis or

since. She thinks I'm mad!

had been diagnosed with hypothyroidism and was taking thyroxine although she

didn't have any symptoms. It was simply diagnosed through a random blood test.

I wish I had been more nosey and asked her how much she was now taking!

Because many of them are ignorant and arrogant because they know

little to nothing about the workings of the greater thyroid function, so they

bluff it off with their stupid remarks, which makes them look perhaps even more

arrogant and ignorant than they really are. We should collect all these sayings

and make up a little ditty about them and get it published on our web site - any

takers - we could give all sufferers a laugh, which, let's face it, they

deserve.

Since I've started reading about the thyroid epidemic I assumed

endocrinologists were genuinely unaware that thyroid replacement would make

their patients feel better. But then I read Holmes' thryoid book, in

which she quotes an endocrinologist saying " Thyroxine makes people feel

great (placebo effect) " , and that this placebo effect will wear off after

about a year. I've never heard of a placebo that takes a year to wear off? The

same doctor is quoted by the BBC as warning that thyroid replacement for anyone

found " normal " by the TSH " test is " dangerous " .

And then on " Stop the Thyroid Madness " the following story is quoted:

" At the hospital, patient was discussing being put on thyroxine medication

by another doctor in spite of a normal T4 result (they don't test T3 in England

nor do they prescribe anything other than T4-only) along with clear clinical

presentation of hypothyroidism, including problems in her liver, cholesterol,

iron levels and female hormone function. Hospital doctor says she never should

have been put on thyroid medication with a normal T4 result. She replies:

" Then how come I have made so much improvement and felt so much

better? " His reply: " Heroin can make you feel better but we don't

prescribe that! " "

Why do Endocrinologists seem so determined to ignore what their patients say? I

don't understand it.

Same here!! I have met / spoken to lots of people who tell me how marvelous

their doctor is and how they are hypo and don't have any symptoms - then go on

to tell me about the pain they suffer, their hair falling out or getting thin,

cholesterol spots on their eyelids, tiredness and all the rest of the symptoms -

but according to their doctors its NOT their thyroid (of course)!!
