Guest guest
~ RAPID RECOVERY HYPERBARICS~ 1455 N Waterman Ave., #124-126 San Bernardino, CA. 92404 909-889-7626 hyperbaric1@... http://www.home.earthlink.net/~hyperbaric1/ _______________________________________________________________________ ~ Chronic Fatigue Syndrome ~ ~ FMS ~ The etiology of CFS is still not entirely clear, and has been variously suggested as an infection in it’s own right, or as the sequel to other infections or Neuro-toxic insults: notably Epsteen Barr Virus (EBV) and allergic reaction to a number of substances including, but not limited to silicone, chemical crop sprays, and petroleum products. In any event, the mechanism in physiology which causes the symptoms of chronic fatigue is insufficiently understood but can be explained by the following hypotheses or postulate which is put forward on the basis that it explains both the mechanism and the therapy. Muscular and other cellular activity requires energy, and this in turn requires glycolysis which relies upon the burning of blood carried sugars with blood carried oxygen. The release of energy by this chemical process produces wasted chemicals, notably lactates, and these in turn impose the symptoms of Fatigue until they are fixed and removed by the same blood chemistry. This is the Krebb’s cycle Normal to all life. In the ordinary way, oxygen is transported to the body cells by this chemical cycles in which it combines with hemoglobin in the erythrocytes of the blood stream, and the same chemical (HGB) also removes and fixes the waste lactates for disposal as carbon dioxide into the pulmonary system. In order to low through the veinous system, erythrocytes ( RBCS) must be deformable in that they are larger in diameter than the veins in which they must travel. This is to ensure that a maximum surface contact area is available In cases of Chronic Fatigue, either the internal pressure in the RBC’s, or in a percentage of them, is elevated, or the permeability of their cell walls is lowered, or both. The result is that these RBC’s are not able to deform and travel in the Micro-circulatory system. This deprives the cells which they should serve of oxygen, and allows accumulated lactates to produce the symptoms of Chronic Fatigue. CONCLUSIONS: The hypothesis can be supported in that if you exhaust a fit subject, his or her RBC’s will behave as above roughly in the same percentages as the subjects proportionate fatigue but will recover to normal as the subject recovers. The Chronic Fatigue patient’s blood on the other hand will remain abnormal in this aspect, and the patients will remain Fatigued. TREATMENT: Hyperbaric oxygen therapy from 1.75 to 2.4 ata produces an increase elasticity in the RBC’s and at the same time seems to reduce the Delta P between their contents and the surrounding medium. There is also a probability that the dissolved Oxygen in the Plasma may oxidize whatever substance is the responsible for the decrease in RBC cell wall permeability. Certainly the most immediate effect of Hyperbaric Oxygen therapy is to relieve the cellular HYPOXIA which is a feature of CHRONIC FATIGUE SYNDROME and F.M. 60 mins of treatment twice daily for up to 20 days and perhaps there may be need for boosters in the future. Hopefully to resolve them completely. Guest guest
In a message dated 4/1/00 1:42:50 PM Pacific Standard Time, prc41@... writes: << I have been suffering terribly with chronic migraines and fibromyalgia. >> Patti, I have some questions for you. First, let me tell you why I am asking you about fibromyalgia. I have an older sister who has fibromyalgia along with some very bad allergies and stuff like that. I also have a sister-in-law that has Lupus with fibromyalgia. I have been talking to my older sister about LL. (I have ordered my videos but haven't gotten them yet. Soon! Very soon!) She doesn't have the strength or the stamina to do normal exercises. It is very disheartening to watch since when she was young she was the sister who was very into sports. Even more so than my older brother! Does LL help you with controling your fibromyalgia? She has stated that she is interested in LL but wants to see my results first. Her fibromyalgia has been going out of control as of late, and is having a really hard time. In fact, the other day it was flaring up so bad she wasn't able to do anything after 10:30 in the morning! Would you let me how LL has helped you with fibromyalgia? My sister and I are very interested in finding out. I haven't talked to my sister-in-law about LL yet, but I know she too would be interested. My sister is 30 and my sister-in-law is 23. They need something to help them with their life long illnesses. Thank you in advance, Shanni
Guest guest
Patti, Thanks for responding to my questions. I will definitely tell my sister about how breathing exercises have helped you. I know you will be an inspiration to her. Shanni
Guest guest
Dear Shanni, I have more stamina then you describe your sister as having. I haven't had a major flare except for my headaches for a while. I begin feeling bad in the late afternoon then may pick up again later. I think LL would be good for your sisters. I also would recommend the book someone on this list mentioned, " Jumpstart Your Metabolism By Changing the Way You Breathe " by Pam Grout. this book is great and helps to lay a foundation for the great effects of oxygen and doing breathing exercises. LL isn't in it but it starts one to think about the possible benefits. I am sure Rashelle will comment on this too. Mainly I really have a much more positive outlook! Hope this helps. Guest guest
Shanni, I forgot to add the most important part to my post. Rashell once suggested I do a gentle LL before bed to help with my restless leg. Perhaps doing a gentle version of the LL would help your sisters. Or maybe they could start with a less strenuous breathing exercise from the book I mentioned. Boy for being a lurker I surely am out there today. Good luck with your sisters. Guest guest
, My sister and my sister-in-law both have fibromyalgia. I can't describe what they have, because I still do not understand it, even though my sister has had it for about four years now. The way that my sister has described it is fibromyalgia is like having chronic arthritis without the physical signs. I just did a search on fibromyalgia and this is what I found. _________ Fibromyalgia is a condition in which you experience widespread pain in your muscles, tendons, ligaments and joints, and fatigue. Tenderness in specific locations in your body accompanies the general pain. Fibromyalgia may cause you to hurt all over. Your muscles may ache so much it’s hard to get moving. You may feel constantly tired but have trouble sleeping. Yet your doctor can’t seem to find anything specifically wrong with you. Other names for fibromyalgia include fibrositis, fibromyositis and tension myalgia. The disease has no known causes. One theory is that factors such as stress, poor sleep, physical or emotional trauma or being out-of-shape may trigger the condition, making you more sensitive to pain. Other theories include: Link to an injury or trauma that affects your central nervous system Possible associations with hormonal imbalances, infections or psychological factors But there’s much that remains unknown about fibromyalgia. For that reason, it’s controversial and a focus of medical debate. The frequency of diagnosis of fibromyalgia is increasing. The illness may affect about 3.7 million Americans. Doctors diagnose fibromyalgia in women much more often than in men. ___________ Hope that helps! I am getting my sister interested in LL though. It is very hard for her to exercise. I was on the phone last night, walking her through the LL technique. It was funny! Here we are, breathing heavily into a phone. If anybody heard, they would have died! Guest guest
Hi , I have fibromyalgia. one of the problems with the conditions is that it has many symptoms, affects different people differently and varies from day to day. I have long had headaches and it was my neurologist who was trying to get my latest surge of migraines under control who referred me to a rheumotologist for what I thought was arthritis. I had lots of pains, so it has been like peeling the layers of an onion. Whatever pain snarled the loudest got the most attention. The rheumotologist asked me a bunch of questions and poked and prodded all over. I wasn't expecting fibromyaglia at all. I had heard of it but didn't know what it was, however, I had the feeling I didn't want to have it. I came home and started researching it on the net. I couldn't believe how many assorted symptoms I had not connected now made a pattern. It cleared up so much for me. The best I can tell you is check out the info on the net. I have a bunch of links and info on a list if you are interested. Feel free to contact me directly if you like. But the reason I answered you on the list is that for the past week or two I've been more " challenged " . I got my new videos and didn't even open the box. Does that tell you it wasn't a great weekend? Anyhow, this AM I was determined to do some LL. I put in the new Reflexology workout, knowing if anyone could get my energy up it would be our sweet Rashelle. It is by far the gentlest one I've done and just what the doctor ordered for me today. Guest guest
Hi from Oz, I was diagnosed with Fibromyalgia about 4 years ago now, but I think I've had it since 1984. You usually develop it from a severe trauma to the body (mine was open heart surgery) There are trigger points all over your body that when pressed are extremely painful. To be diagnosed, you need to have a certain number of these points. They think Fibromyalgia is when you don't sleep deeply enough for your body to repair itself. It doesn't matter how long you sleep, it is the quality of sleep. With Fibro, you are always in pain (my back is always troubling me) but you learn to cope. The worst part of fibro is what I call fibro-fog. Your brain doesn't seem to function very well some days, and you are very foggy. Treatments I use are: I take amitripyline (sm dose) to help the quality of my sleeping. Evening primrose oil Flax seed oil Udo's Oil (just started cause of this list) and regular daily vitimins. LL really helps with the pain, and I found doing the 5 rites, especially the yoga positon " the table " is really helping also. Sorry if this isn't to clear, I am really foggy today. Hugs, Sandy Fibromyalgia > Does any one on this list have Fibromyalgia? Guest guest
Dear from Oz (and others), There is a website called www.Noahsays.com. If you go there, click on to the medical section and once there do a search for fibromyalgia. There will be 3 articles about it. The one about coping with it was written by my sister. You might find some answers to your questions there. (from Alabama)
Guest guest
Hi, the five rites are five exercises you do first thing in the morning. Karma and Diane posted web sites for these earlier last week, but with the virus, I have deleted all my emails (sorry) They are taken from a book called Ancient Secrets from the Fountain of Youth. Hope this is a little helpful. Guest guest
It is so hard to see all of you suffering like this. It is so amazing that an illness could be so debilitating. I remember all too well how it felt to be so sick you were paralyzed and could not function. I will do some more research to see if there is something more I can do to help. I believe so much in miracles and wonderful answers out there waiting to be found, so I will keep my hope alive and keep searching for some answers for those of you who are suffering with this. I have long had headaches and it was my neurologist who was trying toget my latest surge of migraines under control who referred me to arheumotologist for what I thought was arthritis. I had lots of pains, so ithas been like peeling the layers of an onion. Whatever pain snarled theloudest got the most attention. The rheumotologist asked me a bunch ofquestions and poked and prodded all over. I wasn't expecting fibromyaglia atall. I had heard of it but didn't know what it was, however, I had thefeeling I didn't want to have it. I came home and started researching it onthe net. I couldn't believe how many assorted symptoms I had not connectednow made a pattern. It cleared up so much for me. The best I can tell you ischeck out the info on the net. I have a bunch of links and info on a list ifyou are interested. Feel free to contact me directly if you like. But the reason I answered you on the list is that for the past week or twoI've been more "challenged". I got my new videos and didn't even open thebox. Does that tell you it wasn't a great weekend? Anyhow, this AM I wasdetermined to do some LL. I put in the new Reflexology workout, knowing ifanyone could get my energy up it would be our sweet Rashelle. It is by farthe gentlest one I've done and just what the doctor ordered for me today. Ifeel a little brighter and sure feel better about myself for having done it.I highly recommend it, especially for anyone who is feeling particularlyweak. It has a multi-facetedapproach, however...best done with a knowledgeable naturopath. Go to thewebsite www.naturalhealthconsult.com and look up Fibromyalgia underConditions. I would get on a product called Moducare as soon as possible. This is THE premiere product for ANY autoimmune condition, bar none. Itworked miracles on my dog who had a severe autoimmune disease and I am on itunder naturopathic orders for my Epstein Barr and anybodies against mythyroid. It is completely natural plant sterols/sterolins and it is a giftfrom God. You can learn about it also at www.moducare.com there is extensiveresearch on it. It must be taken on an empty stomach. The cheapest place Iknow of to get it is at www.iherb.com/moducare.html for around $18.00 abottle / free shipping over $40.00, or your local hfs might have it foraround $30 a bottle. It is well worth the money and give it time to work ifyou decide to go on it. The Natural Health Consultants website is a GOLDMINE, invaluable cutting edge products are on that site and you could spendhours soaking up the information offered there. They have a whole section onFibromyalgia, you will NOT find any better information on it anywhere else.It is the same recommendations as my naturopath offers. Especially read upon "Relaxin". It is a hormone recently discovered that most people withfibromylagia are very deficient in and it can make a very real difference. Also DHEA and making sure your thyroid is working correctly is veryimportant. Also my naturopath talked about Bodyflex (if she knew aboutLifeLift, she would recommend it over Bodyflex I am positive) being verygood for fibromyalgia patients. Whatever you do, I would urge you to thatwebsite and be encouraged!Susie Please use our list bookstore In Association with Amazon.com If you are looking for anything, please click on this link first! Guest guest
Hope this information gives you a little better idea about MPS/FMS/CFS, often times these syndromes are combined, I'm one of the lucky ones that have all three. No picnic, but grateful for a wonderful doc. Hugs in Sonora Fibromyalgia, chronic fatigue syndrome, and myofascial pain syndrome. [A review of the literature.] Curr Opin Rheumatol 2000 Mar;12(2):113-23 Buskila D Ben Gurion University of the Negev, Faculty of Health Sciences, Soroka Medical Center, Beer Sheva, Israel. Fibromyalgia and widespread pain were common in Gulf War veterans with unexplained illness referred to a rheumatology clinic. Increased tenderness was demonstrated in the postmenstrual phase of the cycle compared with the intermenstrual phase in normally cycling women but not in users of oral contraceptives. Patients with fibromyalgia had high levels of symptoms that have been used to define silicone implant-associated syndrome. Tender points were found to be a common transient finding associated with acute infectious mononucleosis, but fibromyalgia was an unusual long-term outcome. The common association of fibromyalgia with other rheumatic and systemic illnesses was further explored. A preliminary study revealed a possible linkage of fibromyalgia to the HLA region. Patients with fibromyalgia were found to have an impaired ability to activate the hypothalamic pituitary portion of the hypothalamic pituitary adrenal axis as well as the sympathoadrenal system, leading to reduced corticotropin and epinephrine response to hypoglycemia. Much interest has been expressed in the literature on the possible role of autonomic dysfunction in the development or exacerbation of fatigue and other symptoms in chronic fatigue syndrome. Mycoplasma genus and mycoplasma fermentans were detected by polymerase chain reaction in patients with chronic fatigue syndrome. It was reported that myofascial temporomandibular disorder does not run in families. No major therapeutic trials in fibromyalgia, chronic fatigue syndrome, or myofascial pain syndrome were reported over the past year. The effectiveness of cognitive behavioral therapy and behavior therapy for chronic pain in adults was emphasized. A favorable outcome of fibromyalgia and chronic fatigue syndrome in children and adolescents was reported.
