Guest guest
Dear Becky, Using natural progesterone cream, like any other medication has to be used with caution and always it is recommended that you get your sex hormones tested before starting any such therapy. When many women have the symptoms of hypothyroidism, they often also find their have high levels of oestrogen and these are the women who need natural progesterone cream such as Serenity to balance the sex hormones. Also, women with low adrenal reserve need to understand that this revolves around the stress glands which help us produce progesterone, but without this, we could end up with some serious health problems. The adrenal glands produce many steroids that deal with reactions to stress generally. The adrenals also produce all the sex hormones in very small amounts. This means it could be difficult to produce the proper amount of oestrogen and testosterone, both of which are vital to a healthy sex life. Without them we would end up with adrenal exhaustion. The adrenals work overtime in order to deal with either physical or emotional stress, and unfortunately, often end up failing for the most part and tire themselves out in the process. This is the way low adrenal reserve works, and the progesterone that is produced ends up converting to corticosteroid hormones. These are the hormones that destroy healthy muscle and bone in the body, and you could expect to see problems with your metabolism, mental function, digestion, and your immune system. Some medical experts believe that adrenal dysfunction is related to more serious conditions like fibromyalgia, ME, CFS, hypothyroidism, arthritis and even menopause or premature menopause. It could also be the cause of acne and hair loss as well. If a woman's body can't produce enough progesterone then it will cause salt to build up, fluid retention and hypoglycaemia. Adrenals will also start producing their own steroids and become susceptible to long term diseases. Adrenal fatigue is a result of stress, vitamin C deficiency and natural progesterone deficiency. What Mercola is warning about is the use of ORAL progesterone supplements as a opposed to the natural progesterone cream, but he goes on to explain that since working with the creams, he started to become disenchanted with them when he found they typically worked wonderfully initially, but then invariable stopped working - which became known as " dermal fatigue " because it was found that applying a cream to your skin for a few weeks/months will saturate the fat tissue with the hormones which has the effect of stopping them working or can make symptoms worse and that this is because progesterone is highly fat soluble, and once applied, will store itself in your fat tissue. This is when there is the possibility the cream accumulates and contributes to disruptions in your adrenal hormones such as DHEA, cortisol and testosterone. He explains that the best way to apply the cream is to apply it to mucous epithelial membranes that line your uterus and vagina. Not only is absorption through these membranes more complete than through your skin, but hormones absorbed through your vaginal membranes enter the very same pelvic plexus of veins that your ovaries normally empty into and that from here the hormones are carried to your heart and lungs and distributed to your tissues just as if your ovary had actually produced them. So, it is the WAY you administer the cream that matters. Perhaps you are starting to feel better since you stopped rubbing the Progesterone Cream into your skin since you stopped taking it, and you should stay off it for a couple of years and then administer it again the way Mercola suggests. Are you 100% sure it is the Progesterone that is making you tired and not some other underlying cause. We also need to remember when reading other people's reactions to certain medications that each of us are individuals, and what affects one may have a completely different result for somebody else. They may also be using a completely different brand than the natural serenity which must be avoided at all costs. It is best to read all you can and get all sides of an argument before making a decision to make changes to your own therapy and always best to be guided by doctors you can trust. Sheila Hi, has anyone had any problems feeling very tired on serenity progesterone cream? Dr. Mercola writes in www.howstuffworks.com about progesterone cream quote 'but as time goes on the cream accumulates and contributes to disruption in the adrenal hormones such as DHEA, Cortisol and Testosterone' and he goes on to say 'it needs to be used very cautiously'. Dr. Mercola is well know for his knowledge on adrenal problems and also has his own web site and I am wondering if people with Hypothyroidism need to be very careful when using this cream as I have found that it has made me very, very tired indeed. I have stopped using it as it has very much affected my energy levels and have had to take time off as I can't do much I am so tired. I also found a very useful site called www.askapatient.com where a lot of people have posted bad results on using progesterone cream; this is a very good website to know of to check out what people have found out about certain medications they have been on, good and bad results are posted.
