Guest guest
Issue 1 is that he has identified that I have Low Vit D, my result was 24, and he wants to treat this. The only thing is that I had actually started taking a vit D supplement not long before I went to see him (calcium with vit D because I was having massive problems with my teeth). Should I call him back and mention this? or just take the meds prescribes and see what happens? Just how much vitamin D have you been supplementing with before you had the test done which showed your result was only 24? What has this doctor prescribed you. You need to be taking about 4/5000mcgs vitamin D to boost your levels. I would not call him back for the moment, but take what he has prescribed and see if this helps (what HAS he prescribed btw)? Issue 2 - my Smooth Muscle Antibodies were a 'weak positive'. He says that all considered he says this is of 'questioning significance'. I presume he is saying this because my Liver Function tests came back okay. I really wish I hadn't looked this up though, because I am more than a little worried. Can anyone here tell me about Smooth Muscle Antibodies, and whether a weak positive really is no cause for concern? It is always best to be aware of the possibilities of what might be at the root of your symptoms, it is often worse when you are not aware. Have a look at what Labsonline say about the reason for testing SMA and what the results might mean http://www.labtestsonline.org/understanding/analytes/asma/test.html I do wonder if I have some liver issues as I cannot drink coffee any longer (used to be fine) as it gives me such terrible shakes. Alcohol affects me pretty badly too nowadays, though that could be age (I am 38). Oh, and I should probably say that I have been both hypo and hyper (in that order) but speicifically diagnosed with Graves within the last year. My current TFT's are all in 'normal' range without meds, but I feel like absolute crap. When you say your current TFT's are all within the normal reference range - where exactly in the range are they? Post these results on the forum together with the reference range for each test done and we will try to help with their interpretaion. Guest guest
Thanks for replying Shelia. Your dedication to this site is amazing, and much appreciated. In answer to your questions: I was taking a calcium Vit D and magnesium supplement about 5 to 10 days before the test the Vit D in this is is 5.0 (???). I decidied to get a supplement because I am suddenly having serious problems with my teeth (falling in half, holes appearing). Endo has recommended my that GP prescribes Acal D3 two tabs twice daily or Clacichew D3 'depending on which preparation is locally available'. I have no idea what the dosing will be. His letter really is rubbish! > I had already looked at the link you posted. That is what has worried me. Is it feasible to have a weak positive for these antibodies and not really have a problem (or a problem brewing)? Current bloods as follows: FT4 16.5 (12.0 - 22.0) FT3 4.6 (3.1-6.8) TSH 3.8 (0.27-4.20) Liver FT 'unremarkable' Anti TPO & Anti Thyroglobulin 'Negative' (have had faint positive TPO in the past) Thyroid Stimulating Imunoglobulin 'is outstanding' - not sure if he means outstanding as in 'remarkable' or as in 'not back yet'. General Antibody screen - 'Negative gastric parietal cell antibody' Smooth Muscle Antibody 'weak positive' Vit D (25 hydroxy Vit D) 24. My TSH swings between just under 7 or <0.06. T4 is always lower end of the scale (around 12) regardless, 16 is the best reading I have had in ages. The above is my lowest T3 reading in quite a while. The irony is that when my appointment came around I was feeling okay. When I went I told him that I felt I was moving away from Hypo ready to go hyper. Hey presto within a week or so my heart started racing and I had a lump in my throat, but that was a fair few days after the bloods. I know I am not seriously ill in the, about to drop down dead sense, but I aren't half sick of feeling rubbish. I can't do half the stuff I used to do. I am fed up and just want my life back :-( Maybe the Vit D will help. Thanks again. L > > __ >
