Guest guest
Hi Beki You appear to be going in the right direction by supplementing your B12 and as this level needs to be near to the top of the reference range, I would keep on supplementing. No idea how much vitamin D you are taking but you need to be taking at least 4/5000mcgs daily. Your folate level should be at least in the middle of the reference range so yes, taking 5mgs Folic Acid daily should help you and also adding Magnesium daily, but not sure of the dose you would need. Perhaps somebody else can step in here. Often zinc and copper get missed out simply because not enough blood was taken at the time - apparently they need quite a lot of blood to test your copper level, but keep on at them to get these tested - because these are very important for those suffering the symptoms of hypothyroidism. Luv - Sheila So, I wonder if you can help me with knowing what to do with these blood test results. (I still have to have Zinc and Copper as they made a mistake on these!!) B12 levels - 556 (range 180-914) Folate - 7 (range 3-20) Magnesium - 0.95 (0.7-1) Vit D (25-hydro) - 59 (50-150) I am really surprised at how low my Vit D level as I have been supplementing it for a year already. Any thoughts? I am currently supplementing Vit D & B12. Do you think I need Mag & Folate? Are these levels ok for trying thyroid meds again? Many thanks. Guest guest
As ever - thanks so much Sheila. So do you think I could tolerate thyroids meds with my bloods at these levels or do you need to build them all up to mid-top range 1st? Im asking this as I desparately need thyroid meds but dont know how long I'll have to wait to tolerate them if my vit levels need to be higher - I've been trying to build my Vit D for a year and its only just above lowest range!!! Thanks again. Guest guest
Yes I do, but you would get a better response with the thyroid hormone replacement once your levels are sufficiently boosted How much vitamin D are you taking and what thyroid hormone replacement were you anticipating starting? Guest guest
Ta. Am taking 2000 iu vitamin d per day - as I say for over a year and level is still rubbish!! Just found out need magnesium to absorb so maybe thats where I'm lacking??? Dr P says Ive got to start on T3 first because of RT3 issue. Last time we tried 1/4 of 25mcg Cytomel every other day. Think I may have to start with even less.
