Guest guest
Hi Sheila..thanks for your reply..I discussed this with my mother..whilst she was happy taking a letter to her GP listing all symptoms/signs,tests that needed performing etc...she unfortunately isn't happy with a letter going to the head of practice.I think at the moment she is suffering from head in sand syndrome, believing that raising her iron is going to solve everything. We all want easy solutions to problems & whilst I'm certain raising ferritin to optimal levels will lessen some of her symptoms,I strongly believe that sub optimal thyroid/low adrenals are a possible causative factor requiring further investigation as are all nutrients involved in optimum cellular utilization of thyroid hormones.I'm trying to convince her to at least change GP..I was particularly disgusted at his refusal to retest iron,a ferritin level of 27 most definitely needs monitoring..I seriously doubt her GP's ability to see beyond his budget.Terribly frustrating when someone you love is reluctant to walk the path back to health..I'm going to do everything I can to convince her to change doctor,in the meantime I've ordered the Free T3 test from Lab21 & Adrenal Stress Profile from Genova hopefully these will provide a few more answers. All the best...~Andy~I would post the letter to this particular GP Andy sending a copy of it to the Head of Practice. Add in the links to the minerals and vitamins she needs testing to show their association to hypothyroidism and write that you doctors should work with their patients (as per GMC 'Duties of a Doctor) http://www.gmc-uk.org/guidance/good_medical_practice/duties_of_a_doctor.asp and that he obviously is not doing this. Send exactly the same letter and write that you wish the GP to respond with his written evidence to show there was no need to test for levels of vitamin D, magnesium, zinc and copper and to cite references you could check showing that a level of ferritin at 27 was not a problem, when it is recommended a women should have a ferritin level between 70 and 90 (in a reference range of approximately 20 to 200). I would mention that should the GP refuse to give you these, then you will be happy to take this matter further.Luv - Sheila
