At first I resisted as all my young friends tried to convince me to do it...but now I kind of like it and it does connect you to a lot of people! Sherri, I just invited you to my Facebook! I'm hoping that the other students can get to know through his facebook account. I recently posted pictures of him and his grandpa -- they went flying on a Cessna at an event to introduce young people to aviation. My dad volunteers for the civil air patrol and was able to get on a plane pretty quickly after his uncle brought him to the airport (while mom, aunt Debbie, Katey and cousin enjoyed a spa day)--it helps to have those connections I also uploaded a short video clip of him in the air. Did I mention this is the first time his uncle watched him? LOL..my sister asked me, as we were getting our pedicures, if I was worried about . I said, who? said he did pretty good, but he would often just sit down on the ground and he'd have to get him up and moving again (the infamous DS plop and drop). He does fine finding videos on websites that he likes without help on cartoon network, etc. I think that working with him on facebook might get him into using the computer for communication. Sara's life is not much different then theirs (she even carries a camera in her purse), just this weekend we went to a Benefit Concert for Hept C really down the road from us ......... Willie was the Main act his bass player lives down the road and his wife has Hept C and started a foundation to educate. Sara had a ball and Mike took so many pictures. Sara would have done anything if she could have gotten on stage and sang with Wille lol we sat pretty much up front (it was outdoors on a farm ....... really a field concert Wille is famous for those lol) Anyway it would be cool for Sara's peers to see her joy going to the concerts just like them I'll post a link here after we make the page FYI ............ on one of Willie's songs Sara asked me if this was a love song, I said yes and she said it's going to be her and Mav's song lol I think she would have choose Mav to have gone with her then us lol And yes I will help Sara maintain her page ......... who knows what she would tell all lol Kathy mom to Sara 16 From: Sent: Sunday, October 05, 2008 10:26 PM Subject: facebook Just curious, how many of our kids with DS have facebook accounts? I find we're having to restrict 's use of You Tube, even though we have parental controls set up. Some inappropriate stuff is still getting through! I thought it would be a motivator for her to practice her typing and spelling. She also has her own camera and takes many (really good) photos. Someone asked if I worry about the content, yes, I do. But MY goal this year was to quit sheltering her so much. I won't be around forever and she's going to have to deal with things. I do like facebook better than myspace, too. ps.
