Thyroxine treatment

Hi everyone,

I came upon this site by accident after searching for answers about thyroid

problems and after reading some of your posts I'm sure that at last there will

be someone out there who can help me.

I was diagnosed hyper a few years ago and after treatment with carbimazole had

the radioactive iodine treatment. Then after feeling absolutely deathly was

told the reason I was feeling like this was I'd gone hypo and prescribed

Thyroxine, firstly at 100mg then this was upped to 125mg. I was told I would be

fine now and that my GP would monitor my levels in future. I wasn't given any

advice at all about the medication or what the blood levels readings were all

about but one thing I did know was that after starting on the 125mg I started to

feel well again, actually better than I'd felt in a considerable time.

After a time I was diagnosed with really high cholestrol which has taken a long

time to control. When I was having blood tests for this my consultant said on

one visit that she thought I was overprescribed with the Thyroxine and said that

it needed to be reduced so I started off on 100mg one day, 125mg the next then

gradually reduced to 100mg. They said my readings were fine on this and to stay

on the 100g from then on. This was over three years ago and since then I just

haven't felt well and had lots of health problems (including having cancer in

the last 12 months). I have mentioned on every visit to the hospital that I

don't think I'm on the right dose of medication but they always insisted that my

dose of Thyroxine was fine and my blood results were fine. That was until my

last visit just before Christmas when I was told by one doctor that I was

overmedicated and that I may need to reduce the Thyroxine then after discussing

my cholestrol, which was thankfully now stable, she asked the consultant to come

and speak to me. He was pleased to with cholestrol results then went on to say

that he thought I was undermedicated and that my Thyroxine may need to be

increased but to see my GP in 3 months for another blood test. OK...so now I'm

completely confused one doctor said overmedicated...then the consultant said

undermedicated. These are the readings that were wrote down for me: TSH 2.58

TU 25.0 T2.3

I showed these to my GP but to honest he didn't seem too worried and he gave me

a form for a blood test in 3 months. I want to have this test done asap as I am

feeling really awful.

These last few years I have put down the feeling not well, having no energy and

tired all the time, no interest in anything including lack of libedo and being

depressed down to getting older but now I'm beginning to think it could be down

to my medication not being right. So where do I go from here?

Hopefully I will be able to get some advice from you all here.

Thanks everyone x
