Guest guest
Hi Janet, I have phoned up the hospital and the ranges for Candida profile blood test isanything under a hundred is considered normal Mine is 143. Phew .... bad as that is, it does at least not sound quite a severe as I had feared for you (since the salivary test has a ref range of <10) – Still, it's bad enough and you'll have to do something about it – commiserations.... but if it helps, I'm sitting in the same boat L Do NHS gps believe in Candida, or is the gp likely tell me there's no such thing. You will be told there is no such thing L – although they do recognize it in one context – they are aware that HIV+ patients can develop systemic Candida albicans and for those patients it would be a life threatening condition because those patients have no immune defence in place whatsoever and a yeast overgrowth would simply wreak havoc in their bodies and meet no resistance. Why doctors in their wisdom can't accept that the same strain of Candida albicans also wreaks havoc in non-HIV+ patients and we are just prevented from dying from it because we still have a (more or less) working immune system, is beyond my comprehension.... One doctor told me that I should not call it "systemic" Candida (which was the kind that kills HIV+ patients in his view) but "intestinal" Candida, and that was nothing more than an imbalance of too much bad bacteria in our guts.... I beg to differ, because the yeast permeating the gut and letting toxins through into the bloodstream in my view makes this condition "systemic" , meaning `throughout the body'. GPs do of course recognize an oral or vaginal thrush infection – caused by the same bacteria, but rather a different and so much easier matter to deal with. i was talking to Magda yesterday and she told me that when someone is givenantibiotics in Poland they are given probiotics as well.Shame they don't do this in this country.... taking probiotics after a course of antibiotics is an absolute `must' for everybody....
