Guest guest
After doing the saliva test for adrenal fatigue last july I found that I have adrenal insufficiency and currently on 10-12 pills of isocort for the last two months Glandulars didn't work for me The isocort pills help but I still get hypothyroidism symptoms such as low back pain, legs ache, feeling dead tired This is my most recent adrenal saliva test didn't take isocort on the day or day before Post awakening 20.4 12-22 4,5 hours 2.9 5.0-9.0 4,5 hours 4.3 3.0-7.0 Prior to sleep 1.4 1.0-3.0 Total cortisol: 29 21-41 This is my latest thyroid blood work through lab21 Free t3 5.4 3-6.2 pmol Free t4 21.6 12-22 Tsh 1.0 0.4-4 I'm thinking the cortisol is not helping the thyroid to get in the cells My temps are around 36.0 or lower in the morning I want to go on cortef Hows the best way to dose? Guest guest
hi How old are you and are you male or female - what dose are you intending to take? are you intending to follow dr peatfield's dosing suggetsions in his book? I have tried taking cortisol at night - doesn't help me, makes me worse, i think in me it prevents any endogenous cortisol being produced - at times, i've taken it late at night and in the morning have felt dreadful. I tend to take mine morning and lunch time. I take DHEA, 35mg, i'm male, 32. i took HC for a long time without HC, and believe that introducing (prescribed) dhea has helped me feel a lot better. DHEA is supposed to counter act the catabolic effects of cortisol. 35mg a day has got my DHEA-S levels up from 147 µg/dL 140-530 to 295. I also take pregnenolone (again, prescribed) and have felt the benefit of that, too. Knowing and feeling as i do now, i wouldn't take HC without DHEA. (prengneolone was prescribed because of blood tests and memory/concentration) I would be careful asking for advice on this - you'll get different answers, some of which won't be from medically qualified people, but have a big following on some groups and don't advocate DHEA. I'd listen to what is backed up by medically qualified doctors and cross check it against say what's in Dr Peatfields book. Also, listen to your body and what makes you feel better. Though that said, thre is a tendency to thnk more is better sometimes, and becuase a certain dose of HC might make you feel better, the temptation is to take more and more and it may indeed be you need it, or it maybe you need something else (too) and the cortisol is just masking it. >> I am just about to start on my cortef can I ask how do you 'cut' your pills?... Snap them in half? why do you need to cut them? > > Hi All, > > I am just about to start on my cortef can I ask how do you 'cut' your pills?...also my sleep is good I never wake up in night and my cortisol at late night (i.e. sample 4) was JUST within the normal (although on baseline low)...does that mean I would still benefit from take a 4th cortisol dose in the day? >
Guest guest
Hi thanks for this. I am planning on starting on 25mg of cortisol (as updated edition of STTM page 99). I am female age 42 years. I am seeing Dr P later this year but did not want to wait that long to start as my hypoglycemia and hair loss has gotten worse in last 6 months. I have read around alot on the DHEA impact on cortisol ..although I have ordered it..I will start on cortef and monitor how I go. I understand people have different views as we all have differing metabolisms... I had been on pregnenolone few years ago and it did nothing, personally I think that is because my cortisol levels have been low for a long time ...and now the DHEA has dropped too. Thanks for the suggestion about snapping the pill in half...so much more simple! time will tell.. Thanks again...
