Guest guest
With my twins I had a couple of ultrasounds. The first ultra sound was at 19 weeks and they discovered the twin pregnancy. I had already thought about the possibility before because I just felt like it was two instead of one. Got it confirmed! Then they had to do another more elaborate one. After that we moved and they did two more ultra sounds. One was done by a specialist for multi gestational pregnancies. He insisted on me having the babies at 36 weeks. He was adamant about the fact that they wouldn't gain anything after that! I never believed him. Fought like hell with my husband to delay the c-section date. They were both breech so my doctor refused to do a vaginal delivery. Thankfully I got sick, so the first date had to be postponed! My loving husband told me just to hold my sneeze and get it done and over with! Of course I didn't. The next date was fixed a week later but not in the hospital of my choice. I wanted to hold them after the section, I didn't want them to be rolled away while I was all alone by myself in recovery. What for? So I insisted on going to the hospital of my choice. I was full term now, still no contractions. My doctor had stopped checking me for the last two weeks. Never checked whether one of the babies had maybe turned. Never checked the heartbeats... I went to my hospital, where they didn't have the greatest ICU for newborns in distress but I was just so sure that everything would be fine with them. So I had my babies at 38 1/2 weeks, they were doing great, I got to hold them right after they were out and suctioned, my four year old daughter was present and able to greet them right there and then, it was the best I could have under the circumstances, but it wouldn't have done the babies any harm if we had waited a couple of days more. a. I was one of those women. I was on insulin during my pregancy. I was told a side effect of insulin dependency during pregnancy was that the fetus' heart valves grow thick and then can't pass blood through and pump it through the body. This would have caused severe developmental anamolies. So I had an ultrasound every three to four weeks - long ones looking at his heart valves and meticulously measuring them. I then developed all kinds of other stuff and ended up in the hospital for the last three weeks of my pregnancy and induced 3 1/2 weeks early. My son's teeth are infected with mutans streptococcus, a bacteria that has caused terrible decay in a child that doesn't even know what sugar is. I have successfully used a lot of antibacterial herbal remedies to repeatedly "kill" the bacteria, but since they are always present in the body, and since his teeth are SO susceptible to the bacteria - it is an ongoing battle. I am just trying to keep them in his head for another three years. (He is three.) There is a great children's mouthwash out there, with lots of antibacterial herbs and even Q10 in it, by The Natural Dentist, that we use. We also use the antibacterial properties of tea tree oil toothpaste by Desert Essence. Also, a naturopath and dentist friend has recommended that I increase his Vit. D, which has been proven (in studies) to reduce and deter further cavity development. All this info is in my story on FNL's website at www.FamiliesforNaturalLiving.org under stories and "Early Childhood Caries and Breastfeeding". I was on insulin during my pregnancy and was told that a side effect of insulin is thickening of the fetus' heart valves. So I was given US every three to four weeks. My son's heart valves were detectably thicker than normal, but never progressed beyond that. If they had gotten thicker my son could have begun a cycle of developmental deformaties (due to lack of oxygen and proper blood circulation) that could have, supposedly, been prevented if they knew what was going on. This is what I was told. It could all be baloney, but back then I was too scared for my child not to do whatever they told me to do.

We use one capsule of white oak bark powder, opened, and mixed with one dropperful of black walnut tincture (glycerine-based ones taste better than alcohol-based.) This creates a paste that you can either brush with straight, or mix with toothpaste - for our girls, I mix it with their Weleda Kid's Gel and brush their teeth once a week (they brush daily with the Weleda gel alone, or just with water.) We LOVE this stuff - heard about it on this list back in August (I think) - it leaves your teeth feeling SO CLEAN, even later in the day, after eating! Let me know what you think of it (over on the momswithminds list if folks here are fed up with OT posts! *grin*) Namaste, Gretchen from Lexington, KY Mama to Maya Music (8/16/95) Karuna-Rhythm Joy (5/2/98) and Isabella Maitri-Song (10/25/00) ________________________________________________________________ GET INTERNET ACCESS FROM JUNO!
