Guest guest
Hi! I am just going to chime in here, hoping that maybe a slightly different combination of words will help 'click', I know it is really hard when you can't seem to grasp something like this: Salt is used in the iodine protocol in two different ways - the first is the regular supplementing that everyone needs to do, that is the 1/2-1 tsp a day, every day. That is not 'salt loading', that is the daily supplementing. Salt loading is what you do if you experience detox issues - that involves taking additional salt, with water, to try to flush out the extra toxins that are making you feel especially bad. You might have already had your daily salt, but you are noticing detox symptoms, like a headache, or feeling weird - you take 1/2 tsp salt, in warm water to dissolve it better, and then drink a big glass of water, 12-16 oz. The idea is to flush this stuff out of your system, so you want to start peeing heavily. If the first dose does not get you going in 30-45 mn, then do another round, same as the last one. You might have to do a few of these, and once you start to urinate, you will probably feel a lot better. This has worked for me when I have had occasional issues. The comment about not salt loading for more than 3 days is not because the salt loading will hurt you, but because if you are having detox symptoms that bad for more than 3 days, your detox pathways are really not in good enough shape for the amount of toxins being pushed out by your iodine dose. You really want to reduce the iodine to a dose where you don't have a need for the salt loading, and stay at that level for a little while. You should work on supporting your detox pathways, and then you can try increasing the iodine again after building your system up for a while. Guest guest
LP... is you doctor doing anything to desensitize you? Is there a component of the salt that they can figure out that is the issue such as iodine etc? Jeannie Re: Fw: Results from Hakala Research - salt loading Hi! Guest guest
Hi Thanks for another very helpful post. I think you, and the several others who've been participating in the salt / saline solutions threads are on to something. I'm pretty sure I'm not allergic to sodium itself as I can tolerate it well in other forms. I do also tolerate table salt in strictly limited amounts. All of which makes sense once once notes the composition of table salt and the even worse composition of saline solutions. My sincere appreciation to one and all who've added their thoughts to these threads. Now that my anaphalactic reactions have been tied for the most part to dairy in any form / eggs in any form / wheat in any form, I'm looking forward to spending less energy on pure survival and lots more on getting my poor old body back to its former radiant, vibrant, joyous good health [and, dare I add, fitness].LP Re: Fw: Results from Hakala Research - salt loading Hi! Guest guest
, I think you can fix the caps by accessing your settings for your to change the all caps. In the meanwhile your posts are easy to spot - lol! I am so sorry, I know what you are going through. My daughter has been in a "crisis to crisis" mode for years since having the Gardasil vaccine and has a very limited diet as do other girls injured by the vaccine. The worst part right now is her airborne reactivity to foods and chemicals. It makes her life like living in prison. My kids have wheat allergies too. Ask your doctor if you can try non GMO spelt. My kids do well with it. We get ours through Berlin Natural Bakery online. I use their flours and whole grain and white breads. I got turned onto them at our coop by a mom who said her kids had celiac and could do this non GMO spelt as the gluten is very fragile. http://www.berlinnaturalbakery.com/store.html They have testimonials on their site. I would also ask you doctor if you can have egg yolks. Most with egg allergies are reactive to the protein in the white. I use egg yolks as a healthy source of fats and nutrients. I rinse off all of the white, but again ask you doctor if this is safe for you and your egg allergy. Where are you? If you are in the Midwest I know of a great allergy clinic in Wisconsin. You only have to go to the clinic twice a year, because they treat with sublingual antigens you administer at home instead of shots. Usually after the first year, you only go once a year unless you are in really precarious condition. They have a couple of doctors who see many patients from across the country with very complicated issues. Their new clinic was built to be environmentally friendly and to be safe for their sensitive patients. As I mentioned my kids react to salts, so I am tentative about using them. Does anyone know if all unrefined salt has Iodine? Good luck, Jeannie Re: Fw: Results from Hakala Research - salt loading Hi! Guest guest
Unrefined salt typically does NOT have iodine. Although I have seen some " sea salt with iodine " at the store. But those always look processed to me - too white. I go for the celtic - light grey in color and quite tasty actually.  Jeannie - I live in MN and would be curious what the clinic is you mentioned. Might be worth a trip.  Jaxi On Mon, Jun 27, 2011 at 12:18 PM, Jeannie <jeannie.wright@...> wrote: , I think you can fix the caps by accessing your settings for your to change the all caps. In the meanwhile your posts are easy to spot - lol!  I am so sorry, I know what you are going through. My daughter has been in a " crisis to crisis " mode for years since having the Gardasil vaccine and has a very limited diet as do other girls injured by the vaccine. Guest guest
Hi JeannieHow ever did you find me? LOL It's wonderful to have finally managed to change those caps. I felt like I was shouting at 5000+ people. Thanks for the suggestions about egg yolks and special spelt. I am allergic to both the whites and yolks equally. I'm allergic to every part of wheat equally -- processed or unprocessed. Same for rye and spelt. I'm have no particular problem with gluten except in grains I'm allergic to. I'm in Ontario, Canada. A number of years ago, I had an allergist here who used the sublingual drops, and it was wonderful. Due to my issues with phenol / salt as preservatives, he also had his lab make up my shots in individual vials to be stored frozen until minutes before their use. Please tell your kids I was so sick when he started, I was told I was unlikely to survive a month... And that was 32+ years ago!!! I've never been to Wisconsin but, who knows, maybe I'll get there if the guy here whose patients are giving rave reviews doesn't pan out for me.LP From: Jeannie <jeannie.wright@...>iodine Sent: Mon, June 27, 2011 1:18:38 PMSubject: Re: Re: Fw: Results from Hakala Research - salt loading , I think you can fix the caps by accessing your settings for your to change the all caps. Guest guest
Hi KathleenThanks for responding. I've been using iodized sea salt which looks cute in the grinder but is too white to be natural, but will go out tomorrow to find Celtic sea salt. If not, I know where I can get Himalayan salt which is sort of like agate in colouration -- oranges and creams and greys.Fingers crossed...LP From: Kathleen Blake <kathleenblake@...>iodine Sent: Sun, June 26, 2011 4:29:13 PMSubject: Re: Re: Fw: Results from Hakala Research - salt loading Hi , Have you tried unrefined Celtic sea salt? If you are taking iodine and can take 1/4 tsp a day of Celtic salt, you could see how that goes. Perhaps it is the refined salt that you have bad reactions with? Are you thinking you could handle 1/4 tsp of Celtic Salt because you have used it before in that amount with no bad reaction? Kathleen Re: Fw: Results from Hakala Research - salt loading Hi! Guest guest
Regarding your allergies, it may be that once you get healthy again, i.e. adrenals are strong, immune system is strong (can use astragalus herb for that, also licorice root and others) you may well have at least reduced allergic reactions and they may even go away. Also, if there are any thyroid issues, when they are fixed, your allergies may improve. Just so you know, this may not be a lifelong thing for you, even if you had allergies in childhood. Some of us are born with weak adrenals, thyroid, immune systems, etc but when strengthened, the health problems go away. I am just going to chime in here, hoping that maybe a slightly different combination of words will help 'click', I know it is really hard when you can't seem to grasp something like this:Salt is used in the iodine protocol in two different ways - the first is the regular supplementing that everyone needs to do, that is the 1/2-1 tsp a day, every day. That is not 'salt loading', that is the daily supplementing.Salt loading is what you do if you experience detox issues - that involves taking additional salt, with water, to try to flush out the extra toxins that are making you feel especially bad. If the first dose does not get you going in 30-45 mn, then do another round, same as the last one.You might have to do a few of these, and once you start to urinate, you will probably feel a lot better. Guest guest
Some people who can't tolerate wheat can tolerate spelt -- & some can't. Also, there is an issue of how often you have it. When my son was diagnosed with food allergies, he was taken off ALL problem foods for 3 or 4 months, & then we gradually reintroduced foods on a rotating basis. If you are going to try something like spelt & don't have any obvious problem with it, don't have it every day. Our naturopath recommended having problem foods only once every 2 weeks at first, & even once he allowed them more often, it was never more than once every 4 days. A big mistake people make on a new allergy diet is to rely too heavily on a few replacement foods -- which can cause new sensitivities to develop. Even foods that don't bother you should be rotated as much as possible.AnneOn Jun 27, 2011, at 2:01 PM, Totten wrote: Do you think any organic spelt would qualify? Guest guest
I have heard the same Anne. What you are saying to do is along the lines of what our allergist says to do. The problem is when only a few foods are tolerated it makes rotating difficult. Jeannie Re: Fw: Results from Hakala Research - salt loading Hi! Guest guest
It is not gluten free ... that is why I mentioned that the gluten is fragile. I would not try it without talking to my doctor if I had celiac, but there are testimonies on the Berlin site from patients who say they tolerate it, and I learned of it from a mom whose kids have Celiac. I only use Berlin Bakery because they import their grains from Germany, where there are better standards for non gmo and organics. They use minimal ingredients and no preservatives. When cooking with the flour you have to be very careful to work it minimally due to the fragility of the gluten. I know many here are completely avoiding gluten, but my kids diets are so limited and our doctor approved trying it. My daughter literally can have zero fruits or vegetables or anything sourced from them. Jeannie Re: Fw: Results from Hakala Research - salt loading> >> >> > Hi! Guest guest
Thanks Linn! Jaxi, here is the clinic site http://www.allergy-solutions.com/default.aspx It has a good FAQ and About Our Clinic section explaining their approach. We see Dr Kroker. I understand Dr is very good too. Her father is the clinic founder and has gotten wide recognition for his pioneering work. Both take several months to get an initial consult, so if you are interested I would make an appointment and maybe ask if they have a cancellation list. I imagine all of the Drs are good, but I know and love Dr Kroker and have heard much good mention in the waiting area on "Dr ". If you go plan on being there about a half a day for an initial consultation. It takes us a little over two and half hours from the Twin Cities to get there. Guest guest
Angie, I only buy from Berlin Bakery because they get non gmo grains from Germany where the farming standards for non gmo and organics are much better. I would ask your allergist about it. My son is allergic to wheat, but our allergist runs a rast spelt test on him to make sure he is not developing allergies to it. What is gliadin? Jeannie Re: Fw: Results from Hakala Research - salt loading Hi! If the first dose does not get you going in 30-45 mn, then do another round, same as the last one.You might have to do a few of these, and once you start to urinate, you will probably feel a lot better. Guest guest
I just googled gliadin. It sounded familiar after I thought about it. If you email the Berlin Bakery site, they are good about answering questions if you want to ask them about gliadin and their spelt. Another thing I like about Berlin Bakery is that they mill the grains as they go. Are you avoiding them due to allergies? Again, I would talk to you health provider to guide you on what to do with this. Also, my kids eat their noodles which are made with egg yolks under their specialty items section. My daughter loves the dinner rolls and burger buns too. Be sure and take a look at the site. It has much info. Jeannie Re: Fw: Results from Hakala Research - salt loading Hi! Guest guest
Celiacs should not eat spelt, just because they may tolerate it better than other types of flour with higher gluten doesn't mean it isn't causing damage. Wheat allergy refers specifically to adverse reactions involving immunoglobulin E (IgE) antibodies to one or more protein fractions of wheat, including albumin, globulin, gliadin and glutenin (gluten). So many folks can be allergice to wheat but not gluten. The majority of folks with wheat issues are allergic to globulin and albumin. Spelt contains lower levels of gluten, but it still should not be used by anyone with Celiac disease. For the vegetables and fruit, are these IgE allergies? Guest guest
You're in the Twin Cities as well?  If you are looking for celtic sea salt pop by to any of the co-ops.  Look for the Eden Celtic Sea Salt.  Mississippi Market has it for sure.  But I am pretty sure the Wedge and Seward do as well, but I picked mine up at Mississippi Market.  Whole Foods does not, at least not the St one. Thank you for the link.  If I try them out I have family in West Salem so I could make it a twofer.  :-)JaxiOn Mon, Jun 27, 2011 at 6:44 PM, Jeannie <jeannie.wright@...> wrote: Thanks Linn! I imagine all of the Drs are good, but I know and love Dr Kroker and have heard much good mention in the waiting area on " Dr " .  If you go plan on being there about a half a day for an initial consultation. It takes us a little over two and half hours from the Twin Cities to get there.  Jeannie   * Re: Fw: Results from Hakala Research - salt loading> >> >> >> > Hi! Guest guest
Linn, she has reactions to the citric acid which is readily available in the cell structure of fruits and vegetables. I am not sure what protein my kids react to in wheat. I should ask our allergist. We don't deal with Celiac, but I have heard that gluten is to be avoided. How is damage determined? What if someone tolerates spelt with no symptoms? Jeannie Re: Fw: Results from Hakala Research - salt loading> > >> > >> > > Hi!
