Guest guest
Ken, My first impression on reading your post was such sadness. I feel so much for anyone and everyone that has to go through such events in their life. Then of course I felt happiness. Happiness that you are still here to post what has happened to you and that the ICD has definitely saved your life many times. Welcome to our group. There is never too many to join. You are never alone here. I was diagnosed with my heart problems in February 2005. I am 50 years old. I had a stent implanted in June of that year and by the end of that same year DEC. 28 to be exact the ICD. They called it cardiomyopathy. Heart is not pumping to its potential. I am doing very good, the doctor tells me. I am on several medications also. I have never been zapped and I am not looking forward to it, but it is good to know the ICD is there if I should need it. And from what I read all of the time, it seems to work. Again, Welcome to the Group and hope to see more postings from you. Sincerely, ToniSee what's free at AOL.com. It's short, sweet and to the point. Well, maybe not short... lol Here goes.... 1) Name : Melany2) Location : CT3) Personal Info : I joined because I haven't really felt 'right' for quite a number of years now. There have been some diagnoses here and there, but I've never just felt 'great' again. I recently have been dx'd with severe migraines after seeing a neuro & having an MRI and then finding white spots all over the MRI. I've been put on a 'cocktail' of topomax, flexaril, naproxin and something that is an anti-nausea that I can't pronounce and has a very long name. It works. I have digestive problems and I had to have a hysterectomy 10 years ago due to mucin tumors so I was put into surgical menopause at an early age. I have a 20 year old son and a boyfriend who both live with me as well as my sons girlfriend. We also have 2 wonderful cats. Velcro & Hooter. Interests : I love cats and watching stock car racing, I also like to read, especially Koontz, King & Cook & listen to music.5) Email: no for now.6) ICQ / AOL / MSN: I'm not on enough right now to give out any screen name, besided, I'll be doing most of this at work and we don't have access to the IM's there. 7) Webpage : Don't have one. 8) Birthday: October 7 Libra I guess that's it for now right? Guest guest
Gee, glad you are here to post, I don't post much but also have ICD/pacemaker since 2005. Sure hope they get you straightened out. I dread even thinking about getting shocked but guess knowing the alternative would rather the shock! I am 56 years old and structurally sound heart and valves they say, just have arrhythmic problem. What is your diagnosis? I have LQT syndrome but never been shocked. I did have a round of A-Tach and my defibrillator is programmed to pace from the upper chamber. When this A-Tach happened, it switched to pace from the lower chamber until upper resolved it's headache?!X! It felt like the ICD was coming out of chest, not zapping but jerking around like it was possessed. It went back to pacing from upper after that, my interrogation showed what had happened. I'm glad we live in an age of technology! Good luck! Judi New Member Intro Hi Everyone my name is Ken and I'm new to this group. I'm a kangaroo many times over! I'm 48 years old and live in Michigan. I had my original ICD implanted in 2001 after going into tachycardia out of the blue. Doctors told me if I would have waited any longer I wouldn't be here...heart rate was 202. I was never sick a day in my life up till that point, doctors think I was attacked by a virus and screwed up my electrical. I do not nor have I ever had blockages, high cholesterol or any of the normal heart problems. I had my icd replaced in 2005 with the guidant recall. From 2001 until November of 2006 I had been zapped several times but it was no big deal. 1st time I got zapped I figured oh that wasn't bad, 2nd time I saw stars and didn't realize that the voltage varies depending on what's going on with my heart at the time. So basically I lived with it going off every now and then, no big deal. Went to Chicago in November 2006 for my sons Navy bootcamp graduation and the day we were supposed to leave for home I couldn't get out of bed so my wife called an ambulance. Found out I was in A Fib and my ICD was not programmed for A Fib. Spent 5 days in CICU at Libertyville IL. The first hospital I've ever been at to offer us lobster, filet mignon, salmon, prime rib and it was actually good! That hospital put my on tikosyn. Got out of the hospital and my wife drove us 8 hours home with me laying in the back seat most of the time. All was okay until mid-december when I got zapped 4 times in a row. Went to the ER they stablized me, I spent the night and went home the next day. The doctor figured it was the tikosyn that caused me to be zapped those 4 times. All hell broke loose on 12/28 when I was zapped 13 times 4 at home, 4 in the ambulance and 5 in the er. Those were the strongest zaps I've ever had. On 1/3 I went through a heart ablation to try to zap the nerve endings that were given me my erratic heart beat. Since then I've been okay but off work and weak. Right now I have an event monitor hangin round my neck for 30 days. And I'm going through heart transplant evaluation. The doctor there changed my meds and I haven't been zapped since December 28th. Right now my meds are: Coreg, Amiodarone, Digitex, Altace, Spironolactone, Aspirin, Zoloft, Zanax, and if my insurance would have covered it I could have added Viagra to the list! I also take a few natural supplements like CoQ10, Hawthornberry, Wolfberry Juice, Omega 3 along with a few others my wife throws my way! I know for a fact that this icd has saved my life for at least 25 times. It's always in the back of my mind that it's going to zap me again and I don't like that feeling...well that's my story in a nut shell...thanks everyone for listening to me vent. Look forward to sharing...any questions anyone has I'll try to help since it seems like I've been through it all... Ken AOL now offers free email to everyone. Guest guest
Wow Melany, You are a well educated fan! I am not sure about the COT. I thought is was kinda funny when harvicks inside of the car caught on fire!! Then DW kept saying "That cant happen, NASCAR said it cant happen". Then we all saw the smoke pouring out of his car. Yeah the splitter can be a weapon against their tires. I wonder if they will make it narrower. But if it gets done to you, you have a right to do it back. Guest guest
Yeah, the foam didn't catch fire, but melted or smoldered due to the heat of the exhaust. The fuel mix on happy Harvicks car was hotter that others so that's why he had the problem... NASCAR is taking out a chunk of the foam and replacing it with a heat shield on all the COT's, they're also fixing the exhaust, using thicker pipes so they won't crack. Ya figure with the 7 years the car's been in development they would have figured out some of this stuff... these poor guinea pigs.. I mean drivers. lol We'll see... But DW was right, NASCAR said it couldn't happen... ~Melany >> Wow Melany, You are a well educated fan! I am not sure about the COT. Thanks > V ******************************************************************* Hi V A warm welcome to the NP group! There is a lot of great information in the archives ( basically the old messages) that you can do searches on, so I hope you check that out. Meanwhile, the way to determine the lasting power of a particular essential oil or other form of natural essence is to put some on a scent strip, or even an unbleached coffee filter if you don't have proper scent strips. Then do what is known as a " drydown " where you just basically see how long it takes for the odor to dissipate. Thereby you can determine whether it is a base note (long drydown), middle note (medium drydown) or top note (pretty fast drydown). ly, I don't have a real good system for doing this, but maybe the other members can comment there. I recommend you get Mandy Aftel's book, Essence and Alchemy. It will give you a lot of basic information on natural perfumery. As for the amount of EO you put in your oil, it depends on if you are making an oil-based perfume, or a body/massage oil. For the former the concentration would be higher; for the latter it would be lower. I haven't worked in oils much so hopefully the other members can give you some pointers. Cheers! -Patty, NP Moderator

Guest guest
Welcome Dawn Do you mind sharing about your MMR reaction? My son had a MMR adverse reaction. Thanks Sandy New member intro Hey all! My name is Dawn. I'm a 36 yo SAHW and critter keeper in southeastern Arizona, USA. I've been married for almost 14 years (this coming July 3rd). We have 3 dogs, 2 cockatiels and a herd of guinea pigs. We don't have any children, and some days I am SO grateful for that. I hate to think what I might have subjected children to before I knew any better...... I am completely averse to vaccinations these days. My hubby and I haven't been vaccinated for anything in years. Until this past January, my DH worked for a govt subcontractor who tried to force a " voluntary " flu vaccination on him last fall. He laughed in their faces and told them he wasn't letting them poison him. His response was not something they were used to, and they didn't know how to take it or respond. So he was one of the few people on staff that didn't get the " voluntary " vaccine. ;-) I was SO glad I had talked to him about our rights where vaccinations are concerned, not to mention how dangerous those seemingly innocuous flu vaccines can be. He now grumbles at the TV as much as I do when drug and vaccine commercials rear their ugly heads. *G* I've also heard him trying to educate others about how nasty they are. Good boy! I had adverse reactions to both the MMR vaccine (spring 1993) and a Tetanus booster in the late 90s. I became all too aware of the hazards of vaccinations the hard way - through serious illnesses in myself and my pets AND the deaths of a couple of my dogs over the years. You can only buy that " it's extremely rare " hogwash for so long before you have to open your eyes and see the truth. I just wish my eyes had opened sooner.... *sigh* Thus far, aside from my personal adverse reactions, I've had: a dog die as a result of vaccine-induced parvo; a dog whose immune system basically collapsed when she was 2 following a long bought with what I now know to be vaccine-induced immune suppression and the resulting illnesses; a dog develop autoimmune disease within 2 weeks of a rabies shot; one who developed SEVERE aggression following rabies vaccination; one who developed seriously exaggerated fearfulness with accompanying aggression following rabies vaccination; and another who suffers from inhalant allergies and asthma due to rabies vaccination. As you can probably guess, me and the rabies vaccine are not allies. Though vaccines are banished from our home, I do have two sisters who insist on vaccinating their children. I keep trying to educate them and share what I can, hoping one day it will sink in. And hopefully BEFORE they cause serious illness or injury (or death) to one of the kids. Two of the 4 kids have a lot of health issues, and they keep getting worse as time goes by (imagine that!). The other two aren't as healthy as they could be, and one is teetering I think on the brink of joining the other two. :-( Also, I'm learning about homeopathy and have been seeing amazing results in helping my vaccine-damaged dogs using this modality. I've been quite stunned at just how far and wide it can help. And I hope to go that route with myself as well. Anyway, I look forward to being part of this group and learning from and sharing with all of you. :-) Dawn 's Sweet Wheeks Abyssinian Guinea Pigs www.turnerzoo.net/Piggies.htm
Guest guest
No problem, Sandy, and thanks for the welcome. I was sick for a week following the MMR vacc. Fever, fatigue and weakness. No vomiting, but I sure was nauseous. Headaches, too. I didn't feel quite right after the fever finally passed, but it was one of those indefinable " just not right " things that doctors historically dismiss as a hysterical female. And the fatigue and weakness took longer than the fever to resolve. I didn't seek medical treatment during that time as I didn't " have time to be sick. " I was very busy at work during that time and forced myself to function as normally as I could. Definitely not the smartest thing in the world, but I'm glad I didn't see the doctor about it. I hate to think what drugs they might have shoveled my way..... Within approximately 6 months, I developed Palindromic Rheumatism and have had that ever since. Took forever it seemed to get the PR diagnosed because doctors kept telling me I was too young for any form of arthritis, or I just sprained my joint(s), or suggesting counseling since I was apparently so emotionally unsound. Needless to say, I got to where I see sawed between thinking I was crazy and figuring doctors weren't very useful creatures. I finally found a doctor some 10 years after that all started that was willing to do the blood tests and send me to a rheumatologist, who nailed the diagnosis with no problem. I was very honest with him about what other doctors had told me, and he was horrified that I got such a run-around. I control the PR now with diet alone. Haven't had a flare up in more than a year. Re: my tetanus reaction, in case anyone is interested in that particular one - my arm turned bright red and swelled up. I ran a fever, had severe fatigue and really nasty muscle weakness. No nausea or vomiting, but mild headaches. It took several days for the reaction to go away. I have struggled with fatigue and such since, though much of the time now it's barely noticeable. Incidentally, I only got the MMR shot because I was enrolling at one of the state universities and they told me I HAD to have it to enroll. I wish I'd known then what I know now about my rights. :-( The tetanus shot was simply because I was " past due " according to my doctor. I hadn't learned yet just how nasty those buggers could be. I don't let anyone come at me with that stuff anymore. I know my rights now, and I stand on them firmly. Dawn T > Welcome Dawn > Do you mind sharing about your MMR reaction?
