Guest guest Posted June 29, 2001 Report Share Posted June 29, 2001 Street Theatre Project - India Summary This street theatre project for sexual health education is a programme of the Naz Foundation located in New Delhi that was established with the objective of developing a model which would utilise mime, movement and the provision of advice and education in local city areas to develop awareness of HIV/STD's and encourage informed reproductive and sexual health practices to minimise rates of infection. Main Communication Strategies By utilising dance and movement as a medium of education, a culturally appropriate methodology of education based on grassroots involvement was created. Street theatre was performed targeting youth. Development Issues HIV/STD's, reproductive and sexual health, Youth, safer sexual practices Key Points The theatre format develops participatory educational performances in an area where open discussion about sexual behaviours is often taboo, yet informed debate is practically difficult utilising current models of education.
