Guest guest
Most here have had or are going to have that surgery. It is a Heller Myotomy (spelling?) I had the surgery in Feb of 2003. So far so good! Eat almost normally. Read back in the posts and you will see a lot peoples experience. I live in Ohio. Where do you live? You will get referrals for surgeons if you want them. Make sure you get an experienced surgeon. Guest guest
Hi Larry, Welcome to the group ! Sorry you are having problems again - it seems to be inevitable, and you are lucky the dilatation lasted so long. Many of our group have had very successful surgery - it is called a Heller's myotomy. These folk have mainly moved on because their lives are no longer driven by achalasia and the constant problems that the condition brings. There are some for whom the procedure did no work well or did not last long. These are actually the exceptions to the rule, even though you may not think so reading the posts on this board ! It is important to remember that there is only - and here I cannot remember the actual figure - I think it is a 3-5% failure rate - any rate it is a low failure rate. So you can look forward to that steak and Pizza ! Just remember not to rush out and expect to eat normally straight away - very few can do that. You have to take it slowly with fluids first, and then soft sloppy food then soft food and eventually solid food. Take it easy ! You may have to be careful for the rest of your life, but no different from what you have done so far. Good luck and keep us posted. You will find us a very caring 'family' and we are here for you should you need us. Here's to happy swallowing! Guest guest
Hello Larry In reference to your comment: I am to have surgery Monday. This surgery will cut the muscles at the bottom of my esophagus.Has anyone else here had that surgery? If so, with what results? rewards? problems? Larry, welcome to the board. I am sorry you are having problems again. I have not had that surgery, the myotomy, but many on here have and I am sure you will be hearing from them. I hope you have a surgeon with experience in doing this surgery. Please tell us where in Louisiana you live and who your surgeon is. Please let us know how it works outs. Guest guest
Deb, Welcome to the group! My name is ! I personally would say don't wait till your WEDDING DAY! There are steps that you can take now to improve your health. I would say the first thing to do is write down what you eat and figure out how many calories you need to be taking in. If your not drinking enough water then start doing that! Your definately going to need to be hydrated while planning your wedding. Dont like exercise do ya? I know the feeling. I'm sure many have said this too but I would check out a local college for a class. They have volleyball, baseball, field hockey, swimming, water aerobics, dance classes. Something for everyone! Well I better get back to looking for work! koalafuzz <koalafuzz@...> wrote: Just thought I would quickly introduce myself. My name is Deb, I'm 32 years old, and I currently weigh about 280 pounds. I would like to lose 110 of that and would be comfortable at a final weight of 170 pounds. (I don't dream of being a skinny-minny, it's just not realistic for me.) I work in the education system with developmentally challenged teenagers. I live in Ontario, Canada with my soon-to-be-husband. The wedding is Sat. August 13.As you can imagine, wedding stress has not been helpful to my weight. However, once the wedding (and honeymoon) are over then I will be able to focus on losing the weight. My plan is that I'm going to join Weight Watchers and sort of approach it in a manner of limiting my carbs. I can't do a strict low-carb thing, but I have been making attempts to eliminate processed foods from my diet and trying to avoid "white flour" foods. My downfall in my history of weight loss efforts has been that I don't exercise ... I don't enjoy it ... I don't even have the slightest idea on where to begin in an attempt to making exercising "fun." So anyone out there who has some suggestions ... I'd love to hear them.I don't want to bore you too much, so I'll just send this on its way.~ DebOntario, Canada Start your day with - make it your home page
Guest guest
, I have already taken some small steps toward healthier eating, I'm simply not rejoining weight watchers until I return from my honeymoon. No sense in paying for missed meetings when I simply can't be there. Some of the small steps I've taken are: - increasing water intake - eating whole grains and significantly decreasing foods containing sugar or white flour - forcing myself to exercise at least 3 times a week for 20 minutes each time - decreasing consumption of processed foods - eating fruits and nuts as snacks (rather than chocolate or chips) After the wedding I will concentrate more on portion control. I think it's easier to slowly weed out the foods I shouldn't be eating before I focus on the portion control. ~ Deb --- Neal <walking2health@...> wrote: > Deb, > Welcome to the group!
