During the middle ages in Europe, one of the reasons spices, perfumes and skin lotions were sought throughout Asia was this constant desire of European aristocracy to try any exotic anti-aging formulation, regardless of its mysterious origin. This is fairly common knowledge. What is not so readily known is that during the past two thousand years, the world's best collective example of how to live a long, disease-free and productive life have been the amazing citizens of Hunzaland. Hands down, this small nation of superbly conditioned, ever youthful people hold the singular distinction of being the healthiest and longest lived nation the world has seen in twenty centuries. And I'll bet you thought Switzerland, Germany, England or some other 'civilized' nation was the Mecca for secret anti-aging know how. Since the time of Christ, this small nation of five to fifteen thousand citizens – depending on the century - nestled in the Himalayan Mountains, between India and Afghanistan, boasted the largest population, per capita, of people over one hundred years of age, than any other nation on earth. The two thousand original settlers in Hunzaland claimed direct ancestry to the Great Himself. They brought with them Persian and Turkish wives and made their new home in the seven fertile miles of Hunza Valley. President Teddy Roosevelt, and other notables from the western world, visited this fabled land. They wanted to learn the Hunza secrets for their remarkable robust health, vitality and longevity. With each new expedition the fame and myth of the Hunza grew exponentially. But nothing concrete was ever brought back from these expeditions which could solve the riddle of their great health and youthful, disease-free old age. There was nothing to single out as the one anti-aging secret or magic potion the world longed for. It wasn't until the early part of the twentieth century that the world had an opportunity to find out what was really going on in Hunzaland. Sir McCarrison MD, a young, British Physician, went to Hunzaland to determine if there were any scientific findings about these people that could be of benefit to western civilization. After spending six years in Hunzaland, Doctor McCarrison determined: * The most striking characteristic of the Hunza was their constant cheerfulness. * Every one was always willing to help others in any way possible. * When work was to be done the Hunza embraced it cheerfully and without complaint – no matter how difficult the task. * Men and women had great strength, long endurance and the men, in particular, could run or walk for miles on end. * The simple organically grown foods they ate were the same as we can get anywhere in the western world. * They rarely got sick and disorders such as cancer, high blood pressure and arthritis were unknown to the Hunza. Doctor McCarrison felt there was no single determining factor that gave the Hunza their great health and splendid outlook. His investigations revealed that, during the two thousand previous years of their existence, the Hunza developed an all embracing social and philosophical system of caring for and sharing with one another. This included every aspect of their existence - family life, lifestyle, politics, economics... the works. It was Doctor McCarrison's opinion that the western world had much to learn from the Hunza about scientific farming methods, food storage, personal hygiene, waste disposal and removal, attitude, altruism and nationalism. Far from the 'do it all today' mentality of our new age health gurus, weight loss schemes and scams, and pill pushing practitioners, Doctor McCarrison made a startling discovery. He reasoned that the anti-aging Fountain of Youth, which the Hunza seem to have discovered, was more a matter of their entire approach to, and understanding of, life rather than any special diet, food supplements, exercise routine, sunbathing schedule, prayer or meditations. During many subsequent presentations made before his peers in London, Doctor McCarrison suggested the western world stop fragmenting its approach to health and lifestyle and stop chasing after elusive magical cures for disease and sickness. He further proposed that, like the Hunza, we seek a complete plan of living where there is an interdependent unity and cohesiveness among all elements of our lives and our societies. Apparently, The Hunza had attained this lofty ideal and it was this totality of lifestyle and outlook that accounted for their superior health and attitude. If there were any hidden, anti-aging secret formulas, Doctor McCarrison felt it was to be found in their adherence to natural laws governing personal hygiene and diet and their wonderful mentality. Doctor McCarrison discovered what we of the modern world should take to heart if we are ever to know the fullness of health and spiritual abundance of the Hunza. He found that only a fundamental wholeness and connectedness, in all aspects of our lives, can bring about a true feeling of sustainable whole being health, wellness, contentment and good cheer. --------------------------------------------------------------------- is a health author, alternative medicine practitioner and teacher of right living and Human potential maximization.
