Guest guest
I should add that it's called dende oil in Brazil and some recipes you find will have that as an ingredient. It's palm oil. Okay, back to vitamix stuff. I'm not giving jack any dende oil. ,g>  Terry Pogue  My Foodie Photos http://www.flickr.com/photos/terrypogue/collections/ On Oct 3, 2010, at 6:53 PM, Terry Pogue wrote: > No. No animal. Guest guest
I know that some dementia has nothing to do with Alzheimer's. The study relates to the way the brain handles the medium chained triglycerides found in coconut oil and could help all types as well. From: Sent: Sunday, October 03, 2010 6:58 PM Subject: Re: Need some advice There are many types of dementia that have nothing to do with Alzheimer's--they're not synonymous. Also, although there's evidence that plants contains trace amounts of cholesterol, that's not the problem with highly saturated plant fats like palm and coconut. What typically happens is that such fats--despite not containing any cholesterol--raise human cholesterol levels, which is why we're supposed to limit our intake of them. I don't know...I personally enjoy a slug of saturated fat now and then (I LOVE good cheese). Re: Need some advice> > Great, that's just what I needed to know. Guest guest
Hi all, Having some issues with my thyroid, just started iodine a couple weeks ago, and hoping someone can give me some advice. I'm 45, diagnosed with Graves at 17. Took meds (no rad) to " kill " it, went hypo and went on Synthroid/Levoxyl, then at 37 it suddenly reactivated. A new doc told me I had Hashi's. Went off the levo for several months, went hypo again, back on levo. This happened probably 4 times total. The new doc pushed me to do RAI, I refused. Fast forward to last October. Saw a new naturopath who switched me to Armour 90. After 2 weeks on it I felt really hypo and awful, so he put me on Armour 120. Initially I felt great, best in years, but after a month I got really tired again. He retested me and even though I felt tired, he said I was ok. I got copies of the results - my TSH was at the low normal, free T4 was mid-range, and my free T3 was 200 points over the range! I asked him if that was ok, (I was at 700 and the top range was 500) and he said it was fine. I then noticed my ferritin was low so I asked him about that because I had read that ferritin can't be low when you take Armour. He agreed and said to start taking iron til it came back up. Ok, did that. Saw him in December and he took my blood again. By then I was pretty tired but I had hyper symptoms so i thought the T3 was too high again. I had a fine tremor in my hands, couldn't sleep well, and my hair was getting really fine. I also had palpitations constantly and I could hear my heartbeats in my ears, weird. Well when the results came back, ferritin was now ok but everything else was lower - TSH was .09, free T4 was low-mid range, and my free T3 which was so high before was now only midrange. Why did everything go down and why do I feel hyper when it doesn't look like I am? I asked him about my adrenals, and could that be the problem (I took steroids for yrs for Crohns). And I asked about iodine. He gave me both and I was to take glandular adrenal tablets in the morning and at night for a week then add iodine if I didn't feel better. Well the adrenal support didn;t feel like it did anything, so I started the iodoral just taking one tab a day with my Armour. Now I am gaining weight, despite the companion nutrients and working out, especially in my face - Im puffy. And my blood pressure is strange, really low for me - 98/60 - one day and being really high (140/85) the next. I will say though that my palpitations have stopped. But my energy is still low. I increased the Vit C and Celtic salt but it just seems to make it worse?? How long does it take for adrenal and iodine support to kick in? The doc had said I would get a big energy boost but I am not feeling anything other than some detox symptoms that came and went. Wondering if I should go up on the iodoral? I have other stuff going on too so maybe this isn't thyroid related at all. I have Lyme which was treated but I have gone off treatment as of November and it might be back, seasonal affected disorder, and also liver damage from the Lyme. I was also in the dental field for a 20 yr span and I know I harbor heavy metals but my liver isn't strong enough yet for chelation/heavy detox. And maybe my Hashi's just did another hyper/hypo swing? So being new to the iodine, if anyone has thoughts about whether my seemingly now-hypo symptoms are another detox symptom or not, or if you had a similar reaction when you first started it, I would love to hear your take on it. Thanks for reading this long post! Niki
Guest guest
Just offhand I would say that improving iron may have allowed thyroid to work better and you may now be hypo again. The puffiness in the face is a sign of hypo, get tested again to see where you're at. Some folks find that they need a larger dose of thyroid on iodine. Linn > > Hi all, > > Having some issues with my thyroid, just started iodine a couple weeks ago, and hoping someone can give me some advice. Guest guest
Oh my I know how that feels. Have you checked out Lea Ann's Tortilla Soup? Its divine. I add onions and extra garlic. My whole family enjoys this. I hope you enjoy it if you will/have tried it. Guest guest
I am a cook so you,re going to be knocked out when I tell you I have never used quinoa. I bought some once but never got around to cooking it and when I did I gave the raw a taste and it had gone rancid. I recollect that it should be rinsed before cooking. I'll have my P.A. pick some up for me this week. I make soups often so I don't lack ideas in that department. I just have never had to rely on them for all my nutrition. I knew this group could help with that. Thanks . I'll certainly check out the quinoa, use is as I would rice or any starch I suppose but certainly better for me while I am so restricted. Guest guest
Terry - I missed what is going on with your swallowing - what is happening? Is this temporary?I've blended chicken soup and beef soup when I've been at a show and didn't want to take the time to chew - it can get pretty thin (though I drank it on the thick side). There are people who use the Vitamix to make food for those on feeding tubes and I've heard they are pretty thin tubes. Please let me know if you experiment with meat (if you want to) and it works.I am distressed to hear that you need this, and anxious to hear (fingers crossed) that this is some kind of temporary condition. Guest guest
I go in for an endoscopy this Wednesday. I had a Barium swallow Friday and everything went down. Any liquid does down. Tomorrow is all pre-op stuff, EKG and blood work. I'll know more after the endoscopy. I've aspirated a couple of times so it might be associated with the epiglottis but I am hoping it's acid reflux which has caused this stuff, in which case my gastro dr can get me on the right stuff to correct that. Fingers crossed. All I can say at this point is the Vitamix is keeping me from starving. Thanks for asking.Sent from my iPadOn Jan 30, 2012, at 10:05 PM, Lea Ann Savage <lsavage@...> wrote: Terry - I missed what is going on with your swallowing - what is happening?
