Re: Back from Erie

We were in Erie today too!!! Sorry we missed you. out of cast

last time was 24 and in cast was 16. This time it is 25 out and 14

in. We were upset that it went up 1 degree, but atleast that's all

it was. We also got the waterproof cast this time and when I voiced

my concerns he told me to talk to you and that you could probably

give us some pointers. He also told us that 's spine was one of

the worst he has had to work with because it is hardly flexible at

all and it was hard for him to even place it to put the cast on. I

don't know what that means but he did get the cast on and we can't

wait to go in again to see if it helped at all. We are also

scheduled the 25th and 26th. This time we actually got his doctor to

take the cast off early (Tuesday) so we did get two days with him

with no cast, the only bad thing is, the saw was huge my husband said

and it got too hot and actually burned a small line on his back.

Nothing serious but....I hope to see you in September and good luck

to you!!!

> We got back tonight from our 5th casting trip to Erie. I

have to admit, I am a bit disappointed. The last time we were up

there, his out of cast number was 18 degrees. This time it was 16

degrees...so not much improvement at all :(. Dr. K said he would have

expected more correction. I asked if the fact that Ian's curve is so

flexible could be playing a role in not getting the desired

correction and he said it was very possible given that he felt Ian

was super flexible. He said he feels that Ian falls into the slender

phenotype and therefore probably falls into that category where

correction is going to take longer than the stockier/sturdier kids. I

asked him if the next cast in September might be his last cast and he

pretty much said no way would it be the last cast. I'm bummed. BUT,

Miss Mehta told me to expect 12 to 15 months in the cast, so I guess

I shouldn't be overly upset...I guess I just really really thought we

were going to see better numbers this time.

> I did think the rib hump was better than last time though. I also

asked about the rotation and RVAD and he said the rotation is hard to

quantify, but that is was practically nil and the RVAD looked so good

that he did even measure it this time. So, those are good things!

>

> Surprisingly, they decided to do the waterproof cast this time. Dr.

K said that he has improved his technique since he last did Ian's

waterproof cast and felt we could be successful with it. I was very

happy to find out that his new in cast number is 4 degrees! That is

the lowest he's ever been in the cast, so I guess he was right about

having improved his technique.

>

> My other concern is that this cast is unbelievably tight! They

actually took pliers to flare it out some, but I think we are going

to have to do some more of that at home. No joke, he looks like he is

9 months pregnant and his belly is as hard as a rock especially after

he eats. I am nervous about this. I hope it loosens up some or we may

have some serious problems on our hands. He keeps telling me " Too

Tight " and then points to his belly and says " pop balloon " . I can tell

it even hurts him for me to pick him up. I guess we'll get it all

figured out in the next few days.

nice seeing you guys again!

Nah, I think it's just a " thing " . Sometimes when they try to " improve "

A QUESTION TO EVERYONE FOR HELP

Hello to everyone on the group. It is again from

Australia. (s mum) I have a question for you all and I need

your help.

As you know, received his first POP jacket two and a half

months ago.

In November, I am campainging with the aim of bringing the early

treatment process to Australia. (I have been studying everything

has been telling me to read!!!)

I have booked appointments with many orthos around Australia to

discuss the possibility of them taking this on board, to commence

training through an ETTP, so that our Aussie kids can finally have

access to a proven treatment. I am prepared to fund it for them. I

had a meeting with s ortho last Friday, who was a very rude

and arrogant man and refused to even look at s cast, but I

stood my ground and gave him so much evidence that the early

treatment process works (Including !) that three days later,

he called me at home to apologise for his demeanor and gave me some

advice on how to go about campaining.

I need to be able to present these orthos in Australia with real

stories from real people, so they can't tell me it doesn't work for

other kids (As s ortho did. He said it was a superior

treatment to bracing, but only in s case, and it doesn't work

for most kids) . Is anyone out there able to help me by way of a

testimonial??????? It doesn't have to be long, just a brief story on

the success from the early treatment process. If anyone wanted to

include photos, it would help the cause so so much. (Bert, thanks

for your testimonial and photos, I loved it)

I know I am new to the group, and I know no one knows me very well

yet, but I am determined and want what is best for these kids. My

little boy has a major heart condition (half a heart) and now a

major spinal deformity, which could have been averted had he of

received correct treatment. Spinal surgery on ANY child which could

have been avoided is a crime, but for my son, it isn't really even a

possibility because of his heart. It is so risky our cardiologist

doesn't think we should go down that route. This can't happen to

another child in Australia.

I hope you can help me. I am putting all the testimonials together

in a booklet complete with Dr Mehtas longitiudinal study and DVD.

If anyone would like to assist Australia in this cause, please

contact me at briangchef@...

Your testimonial would make such a difference to the kids of

Australia. Apparantly their are at least 20-30 of them currently not

being treated with the RIGHT treatment.

Take care everyone,

thanks

Hey :)

What do you mean re-joined??? did you go somewhere heehee

Im here just frantically printing off stuff for Sara's annual IEP meeting

tomorrow

I got totally distracted this week when we found a broke main water pipe in

our yard. We now have to replace the 30 yr. old pipe with 300 feet of a better

pipe. Hubby today came to me as I was working on Sara's draft IEP and was

telling me more of the news, I had to scoot him away ........ I told him we

will talk about this tomorrow AFTER the meeting.

Also today my oldest daughter who is still in Memphis called and begged me

to help this lady who came into her work today ......... my old county has

denied her son of Sped transportation to their Apt ....... the director of

transportation said there was to many speed bumps OOOOOHHHH my GOSHHHHHHHHHH

this

child has missed 1.5 weeks of school because of speed bumps. Anyway I went

into a tizzy and sent her the TN Regs and another friend of mine is writing a

State Complaint since my old county is out of compliance. NO where in the law

does it say it has to be a BUS that picks up this child, send a taxi, van

something.

OK Im off task again ............... back to my printing heehee

Oh no, not off task!! We can't have that!

At a support group meeting recently, another Mom asked what her favorite

subject was. smiled and said " staying on task " . At least I know she is

well aware of her classroom behavior goals!!
