Guest guest
I've been on 12.5mg/day of iodine/iodide supplementation for over two years now and my reverse T3 (ie anti thyroid antibodies) is increasing way above the recommended maximum. I had previously understood that this level was safe to take for ever. I am now having to decrease my intake but am worried that the symptoms I am taking it to eliminate might come back. Does anyone know of a safe long term level to take?
Guest guest
Decreasing iodine will more than likely do nothing to reduce your RT3 issue. That's because Iodine is not the cause of RT3. The cause of RT3 can be one or a combo of the following: A) High Cortisol Poor Diet C) Liver Toxicity I used a liver cleansing product for 6 weeks (Pure Zen Health TLC) and it reduced my RT3 by just under 100 pts. I also made sure I ate a more whole food diet as I had slipped back into eating a few more refined foods than normal. RT3 occurs from a conversion problem and conversion occurs in the liver and kidney so you need to clean them up. If you are on Armour this may be the issue too. Many have found issues with RT3 (for some reason unknown) after being on Armour. I believe this was part of my issue as well. I don't know what they did in the reformulation. Guest guest
Your problem is not with the iodine per se. Your problem is probably a selenium deficiency. RT3 (thyroid hormone) and Thyroid anti-bodies are not the same thing. If your TPO or TgAb's (thyroid anti-bodies) are high, you definitely need to check into starting a therapeutic dose of selenium. Recommended dosage starts at 200mcg (MICROgram) a day. The iodine dosage you are on is low but acceptable. You can take up to 50mg of iodine and supplement with 400 mcg of selenium.
