Guest guest
I don't have SMA (I lurk on this group cuz I have many friends with it) but I have regular problems with insomnia. The medication I take for chronic depression and bipolar disorder usually makes me sleepy but some nights I can't sleep even with the meds in me. I have never had a concussion but I am not sure if having one makes insomnia worse or not. It takes time to heal concussion-related symptoms though, that I know for sure. Guest guest
I sustained a concussion in early May of this year after hitting a cement wall head first while traveling 7.5 mph in my wheelchair. (Ahh, the glory of sport!) I experienced great difficulty in sleep. My sleep patterns were whacked out of the world. The first two weeks post-concussion I also had cognitive difficulties ranging from difficulty to think, confusion, inability to focus, speech disturbances, and short-term memory loss. Those were all of the better of the symptoms I experienced post-concussion. After about five to six weeks, all symptoms were gone. My sleep patterns have always been unhealthy, but I'm working on it through paying more attention to my diet, exercise, and habits (such as how long I spend on the computer and what time I lay down in bed, trying to keep it all routine and regular). <3Kendra > > Does anyone else suffer from insomnia? > > Also, has anyone ever received a concussion. Guest guest
Thanks for the info. I had fallen and my head (left temple) hit our vaporizer and I have had all the things you've listed but they seem to be so severe to me, just recently things have started getting better. The doctor I have now has been great with treating the symptoms. > > > > Does anyone else suffer from insomnia? > > > > Also, has anyone ever received a concussion. Guest guest
Just as an update to my insomnia, it hasn't gotten any better. Even with sleeping medicines. Though the PT saw me today and said that the fall I had taken was close in resemblance to someone who had been in an auto accident from all the turns and slams. So if anyone has any ideas i'm still looking... > > > > > > Does anyone else suffer from insomnia? > > > > > > Also, has anyone ever received a concussion. Guest guest
I have a 65-year-old female friend (non CFS) who can not sleep. She has tried melatonin, 5HTP, L-tryptophan, combinations of these, Ambien, Ativan, everything anyone can think of to sleep and she only sleeps about 2-4 hours. She is exhausted, works 7 days a week because she can't sleep, is very active for her age group. She has had extensive testing for food allergies, parasites, heart issues, etc. and all were normal and not an issue. She has mitral valve prolapse, her cholesterol is higher than the doctor likes but she eats and avoids most trans fats because she had her gallbladder out (they thought this was an issue for her stomach being upset all the time; found out it was stress in the family that triggers her upset stomach). She is a vegetarian (eats some things with eggs but avoids dairy and cheese). She grazes all day long at the cafeteria where we work, eats dark greens, nuts, salads, etc. Her brain does not shut down at night. She doesn't like to take a lot of drugs and won't even take the ibuprofen the doctor suggested for her soreness because it upsets her stomach that is sensitive due to all the stress. Any thoughts? I gave her Gaba and Gaba Calm but she only tried it a few times. I keep telling her she needs to try something for at least three months. She has been seeing an acupuncturist and a naturopath when she can afford it and they help but she still can't sleep. in La Selva Beach CA
Guest guest
Low sex hormones estrogen and progesterone, and possible low thyroid (with low free-T3 not being in the top third of ref range) could be at the root of the insomnia and cholesterol probls. Sometimes several substances including hormones form a workable program. MVP suggests the possibility of low hormones generally. Guest guest
Melatonin 3 mg. + 300 mg. 5-HTP or tryptophan might help, plus the GABA. I've had CFIDS for 25 years and have severe insomnia, so I take pharmaceuticals or else I'd go insane. But those natural remedies help me some. Guest guest
25 is a piddling dose. Guest guest
I hate to be the devil advocate but am I the only one to wonder why there are these side effects? Mark B Insomnia Hello, I just found a great all natural sleeping aid. GABA (Gamma-Aminobutyric Acid), 2 grams at bed time puts you to sleep and makes it much easer to fall back to sleep if you wake up. My partner and I both have been taking it for 2 weeks now and can't believe how well this works. 2 minor side effects, tingling in the face and a heavy feeling in the chest. These side effects start 15 mins. after taking and are gone in about 15 mins. This stuff is very cheap and can be found at most health food stores. Read and follow all directions on the bottle. I also take Melatonin and Valerian Root with this. Let me know if anyone else has tried this. Guest guest
When I first began taking Iodine I experienced a lot of fatigue. Now I am experiencing insomnia even though I take the iodine protocol in the morning. I exercise 5-6 days a week and eat very clean. It isn't every single night I am having insomnia but it seems to be increasing. I dream a lot more and my sleep feels like I'm not going deep but on the surface of a deep sleep. Has anyone else felt this and could this be related to Iodine? I am currently up to 60mg. I have gradually increased my iodine intake over the last two months. I have seen and felt significant improvments and I feel energetic during the day and alert but don't feel like I am sleeping well at all. How can this be?
