I don't myself know but I was not diagnosed till I was in the end of the last stage of Lymes disease and was not expected to live but am here now. Studies show that having acquired it is what opened the door to diabetes and Gastroperesis so have him try to keep an eye on his blood sugars even after he gets better because it was 2years later I got the sugar problem and then Gastroparesis from the sugar . I will be praying for them. Nasty disease over all. RaeSent from my iPodOn Jan 17, 2012, at 8:25 AM, "viajero8" <viajero8@...> wrote:

Hi ,I was looking at the ILADS guidelines and all I see is a recommendation for heavy antibiotics. Am I missing something? Thanks. in Alaska

Barry,

If this is early stage Lyme, then I highly recommend that your friend become familiar with the Diagnostic Hints and Treatment Guideline by Dr. ph Burrascano, MD which is posted on the ILADS website:

http://www.ilads.org/lyme_disease/treatment_guidelines.html - (Scroll down to the 3rd item and click on it.)

Next, find an experienced ILADS doctor who follows this protocol. The best way to find such a person is to post a request for a doctor referral list at LymeNet. Here's the link:

http://flash.lymenet.org/scripts/ultimatebb.cgi?

It is important to treat early stage Lyme aggressively and thoroughly. Whatever your friend does, s/he should NOT consult an infectious disease specialist because this group of doctors does not believe in treating early stage Lyme disease thoroughly enough and you do not want to take a chance on incomplete treatment which can lead to late-stage Lyme disease.

It is probably too late to expect that iodine would be adequate to keep the Lyme spirochetes from spreading past the site of the tick bite in the skin and into the blood stream since your friend is already experiencing symptoms. If it were really, really early stage Lyme without any symptoms other than the tick bite and rash, then taking really large doses of iodine several times a day might be sufficient to prevent it from becoming systemic, but it sounds to me as if that window of opportunity has already closed for your friend.

There is no proven protocol for treating late-stage Lyme disease with iodine. There are also other tick-borne co-infections which must be tested for and treated if they are present. An experienced ILADS doctor will know how to test for and treat all of these co-infections also.

Hi Barry, I had undiagnosed Lyme disease for 35 years. I also take 50mg Iodoral.

I have Hashimotos thyroid disease and celiac disease. Iodine has helped with my

thyroid disease plus I have had a uterine cyst decrease in size, and my breast

thermograms have improved since taking Iodoral. Unfortunately and sorry to say,

it has not helped improve my Lyme disease as I have had to be treated for that

differently. BTW It is Lyme disease....not Lymes. There is a Lyme Disease

T-Shirt out that says " Who put the " s " in Lyme disease anyway " . LOL Iodine as

far as I know cannot treat Lyme disease due to the complicated way Lyme bacteria

mutates and co-infections exist. There is no other bacteria like it. Your friend

needs to read, read, read as much as she can and she will find out Lyme disease

is a very controversial and difficult disease not only to diagnose but to treat.

There are many different treatments available both using prescriptions and some

using other modalities. I do not by any means want to downgrade iodine, for I am

a firm believer in taking it, but your friend should not waste her time in using

it to treat or cure Lyme disease. IMHO It is very important for your friend to

find a LLMD... Lyme Literate Medical Doctor....if she hasn't already if she can

find one. Also there are some very good Lyme disease chat rooms and web sites

that offer extensive help. Public Health Alert is an excellent periodical paper

dealing with Lyme disease. As this is an iodine list, you may contact me

privately if you would like more information. I am so sorry your friend is

suffering. Believe me I know where she is coming from. Hopefully she is being

treated as soon as possible after contacting the disease, as that is when

treatment is most successful. The longer the wait, the more difficult it is to

treat. Also as an added comment, you need to be aware of bromide detox when

first taking iodine. if your friend is suffering now, I would hate for her to

undergo a bromide detox at this time. V
