Guest guest
I'm about to buy my second round of iodine and thought I'd try one of the recommended sellers on ebay. It looks like they sell 7%. I figured if one drop of 5% = 6.25 mg per drop then one drop of 7% =8.75mg per drop. Am I figuring this correctly? I'm trying to see if 4 oz of 2.2% for $10.95 is more or less expensive than 1 oz. 7% for $10.50. Thanks, Debbie On 10/31/2011 11:46 PM, Kathleen Blake wrote: Hi Debbie, 2% Lugol's is about 2.5 mg. per drop. So 20 drops equals about 50mg. 5% Lugol's is about 6.25 mg per drop. 8 drops equal 50 mg. Hope this helps. Kathleen
Guest guest
Yes Debbie you are right about the percentage. Here is a conversion chart for further reference. http://www.breastcancerchoices.org/lugolschart.html Best, Kathleen Re: 7% iodine dosage I'm about to buy my second round of iodine and thought I'd try one of the recommended sellers on ebay. Guest guest
Check how they are figuring that 7%! I have run into sellers who add the iodine and the potassium iodide, so they claim to sell 15% Lugol's but it's what anyone else calls 5%. Similarly, 7% may be anyone else's 2.2%. And sometimes 5% is what we would call 1.6% Ask the seller for the separate percentages of iodine and iodide. For example, I asked one seller: " I'm used to seeing Lugol's percentages as referring to only the elemental iodine, not to the iodine portion of the potassium iodide molecule. So, for example, 5% lugol's, the 'old standard formula,' is 5% iodine PLUS 10% potassium iodide. I THINK you are calculating differently, you would call that 15%? " Their response: " The traditional Lugol's you describe is closest to our 15%. " In a battle for customers, some companies look for any way to appear to be giving a better deal. ASK, know what you are buying, don't just rely on the advertised percentage and make possibly mistaken assumptions. > > I'm about to buy my second round of iodine and thought I'd try one of > the recommended sellers on ebay.
