I just started taking lugols iodine for the past three days. I have taken 5

drops with water. I feel energy for a while and then a sudden crash. All of a

sudden I feel exausted and very very thirsty, sleepy and crave sweet foods like

crazy. Why could this be? It kind of feels like my sugar goes really low. Any

thoughts?

I went thru this too. I'm not sure if it's related to candida because I'm not dx'd with that. I do hear it a lot tho...craving sugar could be a candida symptom. As a side note, I find when I use salt more, I am less hungry in general and definitely don't crave sweets. I put a small pinch of celtic salt into each cup of water I drink. I don't even taste it. I drink a ton of water too so I'm sure I'm getting my days worth of salt, if not more. It's worth a try!Sent on the Sprint® Now Network from my BlackBerry®From: david kenna <davidjohnkenna@...>Sender: iodine Date: Fri, 3 Feb 2012 23:26:20 +0000 (GMT)iodine <iodine >Reply iodine Subject: Re: craving sugary foods are you getting enough protein? I think this could be adrenals. Stimulating the thyroid can bring an adrenal

deficiency to the fore. More salt (1 Tablespoon is recommended for ADRENAL

deficiency (not the same as the iodine protocol). More Vit C. Vit E. Perhaps

adrenal glandular support. Perhaps pregnenolone.

It's also true that candida can produce sugar cravings, and it's also said that,

and I think it's true, that when a candida colony/overgrowth feels threatened it

can send very strong signals to try to overcome the threat. Sweets, of course,

feed and strengthen candida.

This makes perfect sense to me because I have increased my salt substantially after realizing that I felt much better detoxing with it and sensed that I was less hungry all around. I also increased vitamin C to at least 3000mg shortly after upping my salt and since then, I feel a ton better.Sent on the Sprint® Now Network from my BlackBerry®From: " Baker" <vbaker@...>Sender: iodine Date: Fri, 03 Feb 2012 19:31:50 -0600<iodine >Reply iodine Subject: Re: craving sugary foods I think this could be adrenals. Thank you all for the great advise.  I do have adrenal insufficiency I know because I had maybe 8 amalgams which i took out as soon as I found out about the mercury poisoning but the damage was done.  I now suffer from severe allergies and asthma but I know my thyroid is bad also which is why I am doing or was doing the liquid iodine.  I stopped and the sugar cravings and severe weakness also disappeared.  With iodine tainting this did not happen.  I will continue with that and also do the salt.  I am also trying to do mercury detox.  I will try the liquid iodine later I guess. Again thanks for all the help.

I think I am getting enough protein .  I am not taking extra but I have eggs for breakfast almost every day.  I think it might be my adrenals because I know they are suffering.  Thank you

You can take it all at once, or you can take it several times over the day. I

took mine about a

teaspoon at a time, through the day. If you don't like salty water, I don't

recommend taking

all of your salt at the same time, because you're likely to be more sensitive to

the emetic

quality of salt, so you need to take it in smaller amounts.

You can add lemon, you can put it in capsules and swallow it that way. You can

take it any

way you want.

I have addressed my adrenal insufficiency with Adrenergizer recommended by my brother who is a N.D. It very much helped me with energy. It can be purchased at vitacost.com.

Hi ,  I am sure I suffer from candida, I have taken so many antibiotics and prednisone.  I will add salt to my water as of today, others tell me it benefits the adrenal glands.  I stopped lugols and the cravings stopped though, I will use the tainted form until my adrenals are responding a little better.  thanks a lot.

My personal experience is that supplementing with too much Celtic Sea Salt

actually lowered my sodium further (as shown by labs and symptoms). I added

3/4-1 tsp of salt and it made me thirstier and increased need for salt (I

had to add more and more to food otherwise food was tasteless). I found

numerous references that state high sodium lowers aldosterone which further

increases salt wasting. I actually improved when I dropped salt back to 1/2

teaspoon.

My research shows that salt doesn't support adrenals, but rather replaces

that which is lost from low aldosterone and salt wasting (which is why it

can help symptoms). But it seems that more is not better. Which also leads

me to believe that the more you spread it out throughout the day, the

better it would be. Taking a large amount at once could cause aldosterone

to drop and excrete the excess sodium. Aldosterone's job is to balance

electrolytes. Taking a large amount of sodium at once is going to upset

that balance.

Vitamin C and a good vitamin B complex are good for thyroid and adrenals.

An adaptogen like ashwagandha or rhodiola can also help adrenals. Adrenal

cortex-only is better than whole glandular because the whole glandular has

adrenaline which you don't need.

The STTM site and group are a great place to learn more about thyroid and

adrenals.
