Barry,I'd like to know the answer to this, also. Barry just beat me to posting after getting labs back today. When I started the Iodine over a month ago, my TSH was at 2.3, free's a little low, but good. The doc told me Iodine would bring my levels into range without a med increase. So....I got to feeling really bad, like very cold all the time, have to use a heating pad at night on my feet and legs just to stay warm with all the extra covers, skin is a mess, and I feel like I have a brick hanging from my neck. I went to my doc, guess what? My TSH is 3.4!!!!! Yikes!!! I second Barry, what is going on?

Thanks,TamaraOn Wed, Feb 1, 2012 at 4:48 PM, viajero8 <viajero8@...> wrote:

4) my temperature drops a bit from 98.0 to 97.6

it sure sounds to me like taking iodine makes me MORE hypothyroid. many traditional physicians have told me that taking iodine would make my hypothyroidism worse. i must tell you, the evidence seems to point to the fact that they are right, unless someone here could explain the worsening of those symptoms for me. it does seem so counter-intuitive to me, because i would imagine that iodine would make my thyroid work better, and yet my symptoms indicate the opposite. barry

Barry,I will be interested to hear the answer to your question. I do know with other healing modalities it takes time for the body to get in balance. I picture it like a pendulum swinging before it settles into balance.

Are you taking all of the companion nutrients in the recommended dosages,

including the unrefined salt?

My Endo said that if I kept taking iodine I could throw myself into hyperthyroid. BS!I don't go by lab results anymore. I go by how I am feeling. I have found out I was hyperthyroid already and iodine helps both hypo and hyper. From: Pine Haven Farm <pinehavenfarm7@...>iodine Sent: Wed, February 1, 2012

Take in consideration all of the processed foods and crap and toxins we have put into our bodies for years. It'll take time for the iodine to do its work.Iodine is a supplement not a prescription drug filled with garbage but yet people will pop prescription meds without batting an eye and believing anything their GP's tell them. I was on 14 meds 2 years ago because my GP told me I had to take them. I quit all of those meds 2 years ago and I am still here breathing. i cannot tolerate even the smallest piece of iodoral. makes me sweat, keeps me

up all night, terrible sinus pain. gave up trying. a fellow at my local health

food store had me try taking 1800 mgs of kelp (about 3 mg of iodine) along with

1000 mgs of L-Tyrosine. I've been doing this for now two days. today, i began to

have more energy, my depression began to lift, then my heart started racing this

afternoon for two hours at a rate of 97 beats per minute. i then crash at night,

feel miserable, and my facial pain gets worse. i have no sinus infection or

anything. i am about to give up. i can't tolerate dessicated thyroid, iodoral,

or any type of adrenal support. i'm just too sick and too sensitive. there just

does not to seem to be any hope for someone like me, nor is there any doctor

anywhere that really seems like they know what they are doing.

Did he only check TSH or did he check Free T3 and Free T4 as well? You need those values. TSH is not indicator of hypothyroidism. Please read the section on elevated TSH on iodine in the Iodine Supplementation guide.

Hi Tamara,

It is perfectly normal for TSH to go up when one is starting iodine. This is talked about in The Guide to Supplementing with Iodine that you were sent when you joined. If you didn’t save it, please read about it in our Files. #19 explains why this happens and is fine and of no consequence. Please read the whole Guide from time to time; I am a moderator and I read it over at least once a month to refresh myself on the many aspects of the Iodine Protocol.

Kind regards,

Kathleen

thanks shauna. i am doing that very thing. i am going to try starting at 5 kelp

tablets to begin and only capsule of L-Tyrosine. If that is too much, I will try

two kelp tablets to start. going slow is very important. i had forgotten that.

stephanie, could my liver still be " plugged " or toxic with liver numbers like

this from my blood work on 1/30/12:

AST: 16 (10-35)

ALT: 16 (9-60)

I thought since my liver numbers were good, that i didn't have a liver problem.

Check your flour. Quite a lot of it is brominated these days. Used to be

treated with iodine, but no longer. So make no assumptions.

FYI I contacted one of Australia's biggest Bread making franchises Bakers Delight and they state Bromide is NOT used in any of their bread, rolls, etc.Bromide has been banned in Australia for many years. Doesn't mean it is still not being used by some of the little cheap places I'd thinkSandy

Depends. Mostly. Bromate is a flour additive, used to improve rising

qualities; it's not required, and isn't in all flours -- so, check. But if the

grain is grown in soil that's been treated with, e.g. methyl bromide, it can

pick it up in the growing process.

yes cynthia.

right now i'm so paranoid about bread -- i haven't eaten any at all for over a month now.

does anyone know of a source for flour that does NOT have bromide in it? does this mean i have to learn how to bake bread?????

yup -- i am allergic to pig -- cannot eat pork chops [which i haven't eaten for over 20 years anyway], ham of any kind, or bacon [which i was able to eat once or twice before getting sick from it].

remember - i discovered this the hard way -- was on natrue-throid and after 2 weeks my face swelled up, turned brick red, i was having difficulty swallowing, my tongue swelled up twice its size and i broke out in hives that bled. i was NOT a pretty sight at all. called my naturopath and she told me to stop taking it IMMEDIATELY.

i'm also allergic to cows -- got allergy tested for that way back in 1985.

different people are allergic to different things.

I probably should not stick my nose in, but "allergic to pig"???Does this mean you cannot eat bacon, ham, pork chops, pork roast, sausage, etc.?Because if you can eat those things you are not allergic to pig.Never heard of being allergic to pig.DodyColorado

Regarding bread – there is a fairly local small bakery which is sold in most of our grocery stores which is not bromated. There is a niche market here for artisan breads, or family bakeries. Maybe where you live, too. For those places, you can call them and they’re happy to tell you about their process.

here is a web site that discusses this:

Pork Allergy

allergies to pork are rare -- but unfortunately i am one of those 'lucky' ones.

by day 3 or 4, i started to have breathing problems, and my skin stayed very red and hot. it was by day 14, when i woke up and my eyes were almost totally swollen shut and when i looked in the mirror and saw all the hives on my face and upper chest that i decided to STOP taking it and i called my naturopath.

the iodoral has been the only thing that has worked for me.
